WINE GLASS

Upon my desk there sits a wine glass, empty now, Yet in times past, and in times future full it has been. Sweet nectar of the Gods has it held, along with the not so fine, The best I have drank, the worst I have poured. Light reflected and refracted, sun bright turned rainbow hues, All the glass needs is to be washed and stored, not broken. Yet in an instance of anger or misadventure, shattered could be, Tis a simple goblet, plain and curvy, simple taper. Not etched, nor embossed or enameled,... Sign in to see full entry.

A POET I

Many things have I been, tinker, trader, soldier, sailor, But of all things I have been, or ever will be, one is my heart, I am a poet, forger of the muse of thought conveyed by words. With twenty six symbols, numbers and signs too, weave I do, My canvas limited only by my thought, my characters legion, Stories I have told, and will tell some more, plots without number. Some are good, others bad, perhaps a few verging on greatness, That is not for me to say, no that is the task of my audience,... Sign in to see full entry.

TURTLES ON A LOG

Turtles twelve did float by me on a log, Soft shelled, big, green and mean, were they, Sunning, funning, and whatever turtles do. Their refuge a temporary one, drifting to the point, At some future time, wood in my fireplace will be, Yet this day, perhaps an hour, turtle heaven it be. How like those turtles are we, living for the now, Taking advantage of an accidental occurrence, Wrong this is not, prior planning it is not too. To grounding they drift ever nearer, dogs about, This might get to... Sign in to see full entry.

FIRSTS

In one’s life there are many firsts, From first breathe, to one’s last a first, First time for most anything for anyone, Most we do not remember, Some we can never forget, First day at school, first date, first love, First dollar, first victory, first defeat, The key is striving to obtain firsts, Like a junkie, we always want another, The ho-hum and mundane, not for us, Seeking the new, within and without, Running faster, ask the question, questing, Over the mountain, and across the sea, Harder... TRAFFIC STOP

Routine patrol, 11-7, Monday/Tuesday, hope slow, Solo, partner sick, department too small for more, Couple of tickets, hamburger and fries, nothing much, Dispatch checking in every 15 minutes, SOP solo, Kind of comforting, yet worrisome too, If something happens, up to 30 minutes before backup, World can change a lot in half an hour, bleed to death too, Damn, I wish Sal wasn’t sick, but it was the flu bad, 4 am, over the hump, light in an hour or so, coffee fresh, Maybe I should go back to the... IMPRISONMENT NEVER

It has been said that stone walls and iron bars do not a prison make, Only our minds can imprison us, or set us free, and all in between, With the spirit of the mind we are free to soar everywhere and everywhen, We all excel all too well at walling ourselves away from one another, Fear is a terrible thing, isolating friends as well as foe, Now let your imagination be unbounded, to know true freedom, For freedom of the mind is a most precious thing, not to be squandered, None can take it away... FLIGHT END

It had been a long day, barely making the flight, Flying to Sydney non stop from LA for conference, Got to my seat, two scotch and cokes, night, night, I woke with a start, something just not right, There is a vibration, odd and sharp, yet slight, No one else seemed concerned, worried I, Flight time as crew and pilot, screaming at me, The bird is hurt, her structure failing, my skin crawls, Nothing seems amiss, then I see the chief flight attendant, Coming back from the flight deck, deliberate... SILVER SHAPES

Upon the dock, on a beautiful day stood I, I chanced to glance into water deep below, Three shapes, long and bluish silver glided by, A larger one, and two smaller ones in escort, Needle rowed snout, streamlined body, purposeful, They were gar, this was spring, mating the game, A female ripe with roe and two males in a dance for life, I watched as into the shallows they moved silently, In and out of sea grass, almost as if torpedo clouds, Much slinking and sliding, graceful as any ballet, The... EBAY EXTREME

Now there is a place upon the net, some would say the heart of it, Tis a bizarre and different sort of gathering point, almost an Arab bazaar, A place of commerce where dreams are made, and daydreams lost, all in the trade. From all over the globe come offers of auctions and bids in response, anything and everything for sale. Trains, ships, and planes, autos too, anything that moves, and things quite sedentary too, You can buy a sword or a ranch, from time to time, even a moon rock hit’s the... Sign in to see full entry.

MORNING FALL

With the first light of dawn, In the distance, lookouts spy, Shapes various and strange, Begin to appear out of the mists, Across the water, vision uncertain, Mountains, castles, or simply clouds, Any and all they could be, or more, For voyage far I have, stars my guide, Storms and battles have measured me, Strained and tattered, yet on I sail, Now to a new land come I, How shall things lie, welcome or war, Tired am I, ready for a harmony, Warmth and love, a bit of ale and beef, The simple...
