WOMAN SHINING

My woman is small and bright, Even in gloom she shines, She takes all in stride, Still she soldiers on, Mark this day well, For evil shrinks, Err soonest, No more, Shall, It be…………… D. Joel Forrester, © 06 for my unhappy, but determined Warrior Queen. Sign in to see full entry.

XAT YAD (TAX DAY)

Oh Lordy, once again the day has come, Tax Day it is, how terrible, how cruel, A temporary measure passed to win a war not in, Now a sword above all men’s heads, the day has come, The Tax Man cometh, the Tax Man taketh, your money or you, Tribute for the high council far away on river high, Tax and spend, then tax some more, say and do they, The government is most desperate indeed, paramount to all, For you see, my last brass farthing they would take, This to be built, that to be torn down,... GIRL IN CANOE

Upon a spring day, bright and blustery, A girl did take to the water in a canoe, Like a duck she slide forth, graceful strokes, To cut the water like a knife neatly so, On the lake she goes cresting swells, The birds wheel above, like an escort, With wind and current, her work cut out, She puts her back into, and on she goes, How far will she go, what sights will she see, This is a day of adventuring, at 14 so much new, She is on her own, out of Dado’s helping reach, Sink or swim, is up to her,... AMONG THE STARS

When I think of you, the doors you open for me are endless, with vistas breathtaking, The things you inspire to are so joyful, even when tinged with uncertainty and seriousness, For just like a ship upon the sea, to go sailing among the stars there is much that must be right, The rigging must be taut; the seams chalked, the pumps working, sails whole, the crew alert, Tis not a simple task to be ship shape and Bristol Fashion, but it must be achieved if disaster averted. Now upon a crystal ship... Sign in to see full entry.

EASTER RISING

Once a year there comes a time of celebration, To mark the triumph of life over death, An event of religion rejoicing in spring, All are touched, nonbelievers as well as faithful, Promise of renewal, as old as man, as new as tomorrow, Come let us watch the dawn on this most special of days, Let our spirits be rejuvenated and renewed in His name, Let His grace infuse us all, with hope and joy to come, A time of family and friends new and old, far and near, Even onto the fields of battle far flung... FRIDAY NIGHT

Its Friday night, end of the work week, Time to rest, time to party, time to adventure, All too much for two short days, still we try, A beer and darts at the pub on the way home, A kiss and rub at the door, sitter’s on the way, To dinner, on to the show, top down, breezing, Home at two, a glass of wine, then serious fun, The alarm goes off at eight, off to lake we go, Rig the mast, set the sail, grab the rudder, hold on, Evening, beer and barbeque on beach with friends, Graze at the stars... ROUNDS

On my vest, in pouches front lies death incarnate, Stacked neatly in offset vertical columns are they, Slim tapered metal things of brass, steel, and lead, Marvels of design and manufacturing excellence, The result of nearly nine hundred years of experience, I of the 7.62 mm generation, have accepted these lesser ones, A mere 5.56 mm, these new ones are not very imposing, Officially titled M855 NATO Standard SS 109 type 5.56mm, Needles of death are they, referred to simply as rounds, Yet, their... EYES IN THE DARK

At times in the middle of the night I turn in bed and see two small eyes reflected in the moonlight, I can not for sure tell if they are awake or asleep, it is clear from the gleam that they are alive, How came two eyes soft and bright to shine in my bed at night all night long, I know not, for ever the fool, it certainly can not be something I did, Perhaps it is the things that I have not done that has lured these two luminescent pools within my bed upon my pillows, If that is the case, since... AGE of YEARS

Age need not be a shroud, It should be patina of detail, Of the richness of life living, Journeys and misadventures, Joys and sorrows, and more, All the days of one’s life, A tournament and party, too, Testament that is a joy to savor, A gift to wearer and all around, Like a cape of many colors, Beautifully flowing with time, Ever a whirling, never still, Growing and layering, shifting, Each day, even each moment, Ever changing in wonder of time, All to be seen for those looking, Its folds... Budding Leaves

Tis spring in full bore, here in the deep South, Winter gone, rains here, temperatures on rise, The sap within trees begins to stir again, Small insignificant buds begin to grow, and grow, Responding to the rays of the sun and patterns ancient, Bursting forth in colors various, flowers and leaves, The flowers will dance their magic then drop, It is the leaves that remain and grow larger, greener, Little factories each, taking the energy of the sun, A mighty transformation they do wrought within,...
