AWAKE

Tis the dead of night, and here I sit typing mere words, Yesterday is done, tomorrow not yet begun, emptiness, Asleep I should be, but find I am not, thoughts unbound, Troubles and worries, tragedies and loss, much undone, All woes that haunt me from deep within, hammering away, Hopes and triumphs, accomplishments and love, adventures all, These off set that which I do not have with some parity, As if life was a game with a score and balance sheet, In this stillness that surrounds me deafening... WAIT

The barrage came in heavy and hot, First long, then short, then straddled us, Hell on Earth, shrapnel flowers everywhere, Death blossoms blooming bringing low, The Earth itself shakes as if coming apart, Over pressure as bad as steel, death around, Then its is over, nothing moves, that which can, Heads began to clear, what to do, are they coming, A distance roar, diesels roaring, tracks grinding, Lancing fire, tracers everywhere, dust and confusion, Tanks coming our way, better than fifty years,... CRITTERS IN GRASS

The wind blows across the grass, The blades rippling with each pass, A field of green, with flowers of color, A mosaic of color in undulating motion, What pleasure in such simple thought, The wind brings life to this field of green, Moisture upon the air, seeds a drifting, Matters not if valley low, or mountain high, The green will ripple with all its charm, From dawn till dawn, as long as wind blows, All in motion, such a dance of life elemental, All haven to critters small and timid, Hear them... Empty House

The House is empty, she is elsewhere, Her presence and scent still linger, All else gone cold and darkly alone, The laughter and spark of her amiss, Her gentle touch far removed, The favorite nesting chair is cold, No one sits on the deck swing, There is no she to give meaning, No winks, kisses, caresses, or any of that, Alas, alas, sadness unbound, The house is empty, she is gone, The life of house, the light of my life, Beyond my touch this beautiful day, The world is a wonder, yet cold... STORMS

Life can not always be sunny days and larks in the park, From time to time there are storms that must be endured, One can crower in terror when the dark clouds loom, Or one can stand fast with love ones and friends dear, With understanding and sympathy, one supports the other, With love and hope all most any storm can be weathered, If heavens erupt, and the winds howl, trust and joy can win out, In the gathering storm two can stand resolutely and endure the dark, First one, then the other... A CERTAIN CORNER

In a home, by a lake, far, far away in the South deep, There is a corner that catches the first light of dawn, Within this corner there is a chair simply wicker, For just a few brief glorious minutes tis a wonder, A place of rose and amber light ever changing, From the first hint of a suggestion of dawn, till sun full, Pageantry of dawn, like onto creation itself plays through, Gift of light and color, and all that this means for life, All can be witnessed simply by being awake and aware, For... SOLDIER

A soldier is only so much cannon fodder, March to the sound of fife and drum, Ruma Tum, Tum, Tum, alignment right, Ever since the Romans and before, marching, Discipline makes all things possible, Yet, someone wins, someone loses, terrible indeed, To be foolish gallant, is still to be a fool, Hold the line, none shall pass, die in place, The weapons have changed, and tactics too, Now a global chessboard wired down to fire team, Death even in new forms, is still death, How brave to be killed by... DRIFTING WOOD & ROSE

Upon an aquamarine sea, a strange sight I did see, Drifting among the crests was a piece of drift wood, Now that in itself is not strange, but a rose upon was, A beautiful scarlet bloom with stem and leaves of green, Perched on a knot of a forest cast off many miles to sea, Surely adrift for many months from the look of it, Yet, the rose as fresh and bright as if still garden nestled, Even its perfume did arise to entice my nose from afar, How it came to rest, a mystery without a clue, There it... A GOOD SHIP

Ah, what a man would give to command a ship good and true, It need not be a grand ship, a handy one is best after all, She would need to have good sea keeping, able to catch the wind, Stay a course and right herself in flickle winds and climes, Beauty as to the beholder, that pretty little yacht not much good in green, A seaman needs a vessel that climbs the waves and shakes off the spray, Snug and tight against the chill of night, but airy enough in the topics, A sail and a engine she must... Deliverance

I shall deliver you to the point thee wish to be, Yet yea must decide which point that is to be, Remember, that even with all my strength, lost I be, Tis only thine loving spirit and gentle guidance that lights the way, For without your deliverance, hopeless and forlorn am I, Now if my Lady Dark, with heart as fair as fair can be, Shall tell me of the hidden worlds within, then comfort I shall be, And when into that gentle, good, good night we must walk, It will be at thy side, as equals,...
