Thursday: Snow and Funnies

Here it is 4pm and I'm back from shopping at the crafts store and the grocery store. I got frames for some new art for the China Wall at Michael's, and eggs and stuff at the grocery store. Sometime in there, little flakes appeared in the air--and by the time we got home, it was positively snowing! It looks like we will have an almost noticeable amount this time, and there's no chance of a thaw for several day. Now I am sitting with lunch or afternoon snack or something, and watching The Thin Man... Sign in to see full entry.

Not as predicted...

It's cold for real out there, but the great winter storm has not landed here in the Springs. There's some white around, but most of it seems to have blown away. The sky is light and friendly, even benign, and though the winter storm warning is on for another several hours, I am... skeptical. Pixiechops weighed in today: She is now a 10lb cat! That's maybe a pound or two more than ideal, but she does like her food! She tells me about it stridently any time I go to the kitchen, especially when I... Sign in to see full entry.

Just in time...

After sleeping through the night and not getting up until nearly 7am, when I came out of my room to turn up the heat, there on the horizon was a low hanging layer of cloud lit at the bottom like a brilliant bonfire! Above, the cloud was bright pink and above that, a layer of grey, and then the sky in its soft morning blue. So pretty! And a moment later, there was only grey. If I'd dawdled just a couple of minutes longer in bed, I'd have missed it altogether. To the west, the pale blue sky... Sign in to see full entry.

Things are making cry this morning.

It started with a video of an elderly, wheelchair-bound ballerina who suffered from Alzheimer's. Listening to the music of Swan Lake, her arms began to dance... so lovely and graceful and heart-breaking, as she danced with such grace in her hands, arm, and face! ballerina alzheimer's swan lake at DuckDuckGo Then--and I have seen this one before: a flashmob performing Beethoven's Ode to Joy! It always brings tears for its beauty and for the wonderful experience of the audience receiving this... Sign in to see full entry.

December Friday

This is the month when I both worry over and fail to notice how fast the days are passing, how many birthdays need attention and mailings, how far, then near the 25th is... And suddenly, it's going to be New Year's...! This year I refuse to be intimidated by it all. The main thing is to really not stress over the timings. I am responsible for no one's entire birthday, Christmas, or any special day. And when presents arrive, they are always as welcome as they'd be on The Day. So, no stressing... Slow and steady Wednesday

Midweek, we have sunshine and cool morning hours, and a certain calm here as the Georgia run-off has concluded, the super-cold days have passed for now, and no one here is ailing. Yesterday's major accomplishement was the clearing of one of the bigger doom-boxes, disposing of a fair amount of paper trash and ordering of the papers worth keeping. I actually look forward to doing more of that today. I've also ordered a supplement called berberine, which is reputed to work well for a lot of people... Sign in to see full entry.

The Black Lace Panties Incident

One of Mom's frustrations... well, all of us shared the frustration... was that Dad was Never Wrong. He had decided in his youth that he could never be called on being wrong if he was diligent in study and knowing the facts before he opened his mouth. This worked for him most of the time. He was clever with words, too, and the older I got, the more fun he and I had with puns. He taught me to play with words, but Mom just never joined in, this was not where she shone. But she enjoyed jokes even... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunday thoughts

Meh morning... Feeling poorly enough--head-achey, deep-breathing achey--to take a covid test which came back negative. Maybe I'll go back to bed in a little while. The breathing is better now, but the headache hangs on. Olaf, aka Big Orange Cat, has come by the back door a couple of times this week which sends Pixiechops into paroxysms of rage. I remove her to the bedroom, and open the back door to let Olaf know someone still likes him, and put a little food out for him. But I think it's... Sign in to see full entry.

After the wind...

We're done with the wind for now, and have sent it on eastward for your enjoyment, you who live out that way and not the other way. It was intermittantly intense here, but a friend to the south had 100mph, she reports. Here the problem was the air stirring around the living room, annoying the 'keets. Birds like breezes on them even less than cold. So, finally we pulled in the a/c outflow hose from its place alongside the window, and closed it for the season. I undraped the birdcage, and all's... Mom's Shining Moment

Mom is on my mind today... I've told this story here before, but as the holiday season begins, I always think of her. She eased on out of this life on Christmas Eve, 2015. Mom has always been a very practical person, not given to the making of jokes though she has always enjoyed a good one. When Dad and I punned around her, she just laughed and got on with business. In fact, I can't ever remember her telling jokes. All the same, she had hermoments... My Dad, as I have mentioned before, was an... Sign in to see full entry.
