More on the little things that make a country

As I was lying down on the bed last night, it came to my attention that I haven't wrote about the pillows yet! They are a very important part of our life and should be given the full attention that they deserve. After all, we do have a long relationship together, spending about the third of our... Some more on transportation...

A photograph just left our home. He was taking pictures of the exterior AND interior of the house because they are going to blast a hole in the mountain for a tunnel and this might, just might, affect the house walls and foundations. So, he was looking for any cracks that are already present, such... Sign in to see full entry.

Public Transport in Germany

They have just introduced a new and cheap monthly pass for the region (49 vs 79 Eur.) to incite people to take Public transports to go to work or school or whatever BUT, as they are still in a rotating strike campaign, a lot of people, who would have like to buy it, are taking their cars instead!... Home Sweet (German) Home!

We came back on Friday night but I was too exhausted to feel like writing anything before today. Looking after a bunch of 11 years old IS tough! They all have their little "preferences" (mommy's food is the only one I eat, I don't like walking, my feet hurt, my feet are cold etc.)and some are really... Sign in to see full entry.

And the others that were with me were all anglos, so, when the saw that sign: train suprime, they thought,... Sign in to see full entry.

Sommertagzug

I just came back from the Sommertagzug (summer-day-train) and it was great fun to see all the kids dressed up for the parade to push winter away! It is a traditional German celebration on the first Sunday of March to tell Winter that it is time to go! There are two trees in the parade: one... Sign in to see full entry.

Neckargemünd, the first pearl

Neckargemünd, as some might have guessed by now, is where I live. So, it is the town (or small city, about 15 000 inhabitants) that I know best. On the way from Heildelberg, it is the first of the four pearls that you will encounter along the Neckar. It might also be the oldest "town " of the four.... Sign in to see full entry.

Romantic Hirschhorn

We've had this morning our first real storm since we arrived in Germany. It's the first time I decide to stay inside the house because of such a bad weather. It was raining cats and dogs (I love that expression), there was lots of winds and lightnings and thunder, even a little hail. The thunder... Sign in to see full entry.

The Richtfest

I've just came back from an interesting German celebration: Richtfest ("richten" means to address someone). It is to celebrate the fact that the biggest part of a construction building has been bone, that the builders have reach about half of the work. And, the "putting on the roof" of a new... Dilsberg served on a ...poem

Up the Mountain Lies his Remain! Old Dilsberg Bell(e) Sings a Farewell! Auf Wiedersehen (see you again) Die Glocken singen! (The Bells sing) Und von der Schloss Ritter (and of the castle Knight) Singen sie die Leier! (Sing they the songs) Il était Preux! (He was proud) Il était courageaux! (He had...
