Paintings for My Son's Shop, filling his walls with customer's portraits

This is why I have been blogging less. I have been trying to jazz up my son's friend's shop. There are three barbers and I drop in to photo some customers' cuts, before and after and then do a portrait of them to hang on the walls there. I want them to be different from other shops, but cool, too. Trying to fix up the place before writing a story about these fellows for the newspaper. Here are four photos poorly taken with my horrible new, useless I'd say, camera. The paintings are better than... Sign in to see full entry.

The Way That I See Myself on a Bad Day

I painted myself one day when things were not going so right and I needed to have a more powerful image of myself on the wall next to the mirror......but then I sold the painting and now just have the photo of it. I sell everything....oh well. Sure hope that I can figure out how to post this photo. I did it once, but lack the belief that I can do it again. Here goes. Omigosh!! I succeeded. Even ancient cavewomen can learn. Sign in to see full entry.

Not So Hot Today

The monsoon season has arrived or 'struck' might be a better word for its arrival. I was driving down the road and the wind blew huge globs of rain sideways and then threw a huge eucalyptus tree branch at my car, which I dodged. It threw real estate For Sale signs at the car and other exciting things, but missed me every time. Our streets turn into rivers until an hour or so after the rain quits, so I sailed down them. It did, however, wash out my telephone line and I had no telephone for three... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm Hot

There are clouds in the sky, but the air is still 104 degrees Farenheit hot. The added humidity is the drag. We do need rain, so I'm trying not to whine, but my old bones sure do hurt when the water content in the air rises. I am also hot about a scene that my dog discovered and called me to come and see. She was barking madly and trying to jump over the fence. I later discovered that I should have let her out on the street to bite somebody. A young, fourteen year old or so, fellow was screaming... The Day That I Quit, 5 Min. B4 Being Fired

I had held the position of Eligibility Worker for over two years at our County Hospital. When I began, I didn’t understand all of the rules and regulations for making someone eligible for free care nor did I understand all of the reasons for making them ineligible. By the time that I left, I understood it all too well. There were about eight of us in our office. Approximately 100 people and their children would arrive each morning to sit in the waiting room of the Hospital, unable to see the... Sign in to see full entry.

Coming Out on Blogit, Good Idea or Not, I’m doing It !!

Scary, scary thing to do, the gut wrenching feelings in my tummy, the openness of it all, the vulnerability that overtakes my soul and makes it hard for me to breathe in and out, these things fill my mind so fully that I can hardly type these words. So, anyway, here I go. If you want to know who I am and what I do with my days and nights, other than reading the stories that I tell here, some true, some fictional….you must go visit the eBay.com site and type this into the search engine there:... The Banana Loading Diet and Its Consequences

They were best friends and five years old. All growing season they had kept their hungry eyes on one neighbor’s banana trees. When they heard that the neighbor was about to cut the bunches off of his trees within the next week, for sale in the marketplace, they decided that the time was ripe for thievery. They slept together that night in Alficene’s room upon his web netted bed. But, they didn’t really sleep, just kept their eyes closed as they listened to his brothers snoring, heard his mother... Stories from An African Boy’s Childhood

To Alficene, making money was an everyday activity and the means to make it was the only challenge. He and his friends used to climb up fruit trees and spread gummy substances gathered from another tree, onto its most fruit filled limbs. Then they would climb down, go make more money somewhere else and return later that day to catch the beautiful parrots stuck in the gum. They sold the parrots to Portuguese soldiers who liked exotic birds as pets. The Portuguese had colonized their nation and... Sign in to see full entry.

I’m Just An Immaterial Girl, Living In A Flea Bitten World

So, I hear that Madonna’s arena ticket sales are down and I think that I know why. She’s aging. It happened to me, it will happen to her. Only Cher manages to keep her ‘outrageousness’ at the correct level for continued ticket sales. May she live forever and be forever ‘cool’ like my other favorite, Bette Midler, who took arena shows to a level heretofore unknown by men and women of the entertainment world. Her mermaid in a wheelchair was a high point for me. I like older women. I wonder why? I... Sign in to see full entry.

Dad and The Meat Lady in Honduras

When we lived in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, my dad ordered a huge baby blue van to drive the family around. We were no longer small children, but a crowd of eight, fairly large, teens and adults. Trouble was, all the city buses there were blue vans and he hadn’t known that when ordering it from the States before the family arrived in that country. Every morning, bright and very early, everyone piled into that van and drove down a convoluted mountainside, with steep jungle lined cliffs and hairpin... Sign in to see full entry.
