The persistence of life. That tree that was struck by lightning and cut

down to about three feet above the ground, still has a fabulously grand and useful root system. So, tiny branches are popping up all over the sides of the trunk. Hope sings eternal, springs eternal? Dunno why my fingers wrote SINGS the first time. Anyway, it is coming screaming back. Great. My front... Sign in to see full entry.

I seem to only step into the garden to save it with water, rake it or walk

through it. I actually made myself sit on my huge garden swing and the dogs jumped up and we all just went back and forth, them jumping on and off, for about sixty minutes last night at about 1 a.m. Lovely. Sign in to see full entry.

The lightning struck tree is still here, breaking through the front fence.

The front fencing is broken and needs about 14 wooden slats replaced and two 2x4s. The Texas Rangers are now gone so that I can paint the front wall and make the front garden fresh and pretty again, soon. The pigeons have found the bag of seeds this a.m. as I was late filling feeders for the finches... Sign in to see full entry.

My garden and all of Tucson is so green as to be unrecognizable.

We look like Phoenix. Phoenix is always green as they are a water wasting city. We have chosen desert plantings more often than not. Except for the newcomers. However, this sweeter than usual summer of lower than usual temperatures and with the rains and higher humidity, we have flowers blossoming... Sign in to see full entry.

Rain dances paying off this week.

It began to rain tonight, about two hours ago and it has not stopped. I am almost in tears over the darned raindrops on the roof. My garden is rejoicing, a windchime is ting tinging in a soft breeze and the thunder which sent the doggies all under my chair, has ended. Three dogs do not fit under one... The landlord brought his debris trailer and wants it filled quickly.

I begged for it to come here, thinking that he would leave it as he leaves so much else for long periods of time. But, no. He may move it tomorrow. Darn!! I spent two hours yesterday, filling it with bamboo. Today two passing young fellows helped me to fill the three huge garbage cans with cactus... Sign in to see full entry.

Started at 5 a.m. and finished at 9:15 a.m. and thought I'd die...

I went to get my little foreign student granddaughter so that she could go through the boxes on my back porch. She had said that she was sure to be able to get her things into 6 boxes for the Amtrak ride to Wisconsin. HAH! We have filled 8 at her dormitory already and there is more left over there.... It is presently raining very hard outside, just at dusk.

My old bones ached all day, waiting for this. I danced some rain dances and prayed some rain prayers and asked for two hours of rain today. May it come true. My big old trees and those next door and down the street could really use a break from this endless drought. I watered for two hours this... Sign in to see full entry.

The Sunrise and Sunset Gardener

I am getting so much done, working like an ant at about 5:00 a.m., a little each day, never stopping until wiped out when the sun hits my head at about 7:30 a.m. I go out to work again when the sun hangs over the western mountains, just barely visible, say 6:30 p.m., until it disappears at about 8...
