Hello, bards

We take M*A*S*H on the boards in about a month. I was fitted for my general's uniform this week, but in the meantime I'm sleeping/working/showering in a set of fatigues to make them look "used" - when my general isn't ranting on the phone, he doubles as a stretcher-bearer. Not much going on in the... Sign in to see full entry.

G'day, Mates from M*A*S*H

W'll have this thing ready in a month or two, but it's going well. We'll be off book Monday. My poems are in three hands now. It looks promising. Bob and the Grabbag. Sign in to see full entry.

Saint Patrick's Day Parade Remembered - 1947

A garish teenage high school band from Queens goes clashing, thumping by. The struggling clarinets do their best, squeaking tunes they've learned in class. They gamely brave the cold, deserve the patter of applause they earn... But then, alert, all heads turn south. The chill that chills my spine... Sign in to see full entry.

Greetings from the M*A*S*H 4077!

Hawkeye, Trapper John, and Hotlips send their best Paddy's Day greetings! Me, too - General Hammond (a ramrod general who exists only in the original novel, not in the movie or tv series. Other differences: Frank Burns and Hotlips do not become an item, Frank [literally driven nuts by Hawkeye and... Sign in to see full entry.

I got a part in our community theater's production of M*A*S*h so, with rehearsals and learning lines, I won't be writing many poems - at least for a month or two. What's more, a different muse is yelling at me now, so I'll probably have to lose the beard again for the same length of time ("again" =... Sign in to see full entry.

The Wine List

- Fondly dedicated to those vaporous souls who describe the choices on restaurant wine lists. "This wine has legs!" (What could that mean? I guess I was supposed to know!) Intrigued, I learned it had a "nose!" Just how far could this go? "With note of oak and spruce and tannin, The grapy tang of... Sign in to see full entry.

The Luftwaffe and the Language Table*

Professor Bauer, all had heard, Had earned a certain fame - "Luftwaffe ace in World War Two!" "Sent Ami's down in flame!"* Two decades later, we agreed, He did more of the same, This time with red ink plentiful The casualties came. What's more, he'd never heard the rule: No tricky jokes at table! Or... Sign in to see full entry.

But ... What Exactly IS Tapioca?

... Perhaps a wild Latino dance That finished belly-up, Replaced in time by My-T-Fine And yogurt by the cup: ("Just do the Ta pi O ca! It's nothing like the POL ka; Puts Coca in your Co - LA! Just do the Tapi O ca!) Those pleasant little globules That between your teeth break up!? Sure, but what IS... Sign in to see full entry.

Listen up, Laptop!

I really do hate this device! I think I just may sell it! It never does the things I want, But only what I tell it! Note - This is my recollection of a verse that was making the rounds many years ago, back when a PC was an oddity that few could afford. Now that I own one, I relish the irony of those... Poem #2 - The Opening Gun. So To Speak

"ET SE ENDT UF ZIS SUMMER YOU VILL ALL PEE ABLE TO SPEAK CHERMAN ESS VELL ESS I SPEAK ENGLISH - VIT OUDT A EKSENT!" - Vee could hardly vait! Note - The speaker is Willi Reichenbach, a German instructor mercifully unable to listen to himself. I'm sure that we in turn must have provided him and his... Sign in to see full entry.
