The poem is so long that at certain points I feel lost

Baby Unicorns?
I can only hope they grow the horn after the mother gives birth.

Re: explanations
I appreciate your patience with the non-poetry.  As you say, it's useful.

Re: Language
aYou're right, of course - embarassment comes in bigger, heavier packages than this.  What makes this incident and others like it stick in my mind is the strange emotional consequence, which I intend to write about in th e next poem or so.  Without even being aware of it, your flow in the foreign language stops, except fo the most basic 3-word sentences.  It stops! When confidence returns, it returns.

As for gardening, I,m a real duffer, but I love it dearly.  It's the one thing I really missed while undergoing chemotherapy last year - no energy.  Mainly I do groundcover - pachysandra, periwinkle, and, well, grass - and some flowers - lots of annuals under my wife's direction, roses and day lilies under my own. And I almost forgot - shade-loving perennials.  And don't let me forget Hosta - I love that stuff! Given the chance, I've put to death my share of vegetables - zuccini, tomatoes, asparagus, miniature corn - but the bugs and blight usually beat me to it.  And the deer, though I've discovered that peppermint spray on plants in spring keeps them off for the whole season.

Language

Yes I get the feeling Bob, but it was only two buttons worth of embarrassment in reality.

When I look back at something that I have done and  nearly died with shame, nothing now.

When with our peers we do not like a downgrade.

You could also tell a bit about your garden, which you do not mention in your profile, I have been slurping around in the soil and wonder what crops you grow.
