Swimming with dolphins

is high on my Singapore To-Do list. There seems to be a correlation between the state of emotions of the observer and the proximity of whales. I learned this years ago, when I was studying whales and dolphins, a time of much, much angst in my life. In the wild, orcas simply did not come around or... Sign in to see full entry.

What am I going to forget?

What do you forget when you pack for a long trip? What do you not bother to carry because you figure you can get it there? What do you bring anyway, because it is going to be a lot more expensive there? I want to have everything gathered up into luggage before I go to bed tonight, leaving tomorrow... Meet my daughter...

I wrote this about two years ago, about my younger daughter--the one who has just moved to Singapore, which is the current answer to the question that I posed at the end... My younger daughter is a highly competent person. She is direct and straightforward and knows what she wants. She expects other... Sign in to see full entry.

As the day of departure nears...

...but is still more than a week and a half away, I find myself more and more disinterested in home matters, but not yet quite ready to pack, so-- finding things to do in between... I bought flowers last week-- primroses, pansies, a hyacinth, some tiny irises... and grass seed today. Last week I... Sign in to see full entry.

Found it!

It was not only in the last place I looked, it was in the first place I looked, but didn't see it because it was tucked under other stuff, and I just missed it. I rifled that drawer three times, before finding that passport on the bottom layer! The painful effects of getting shots in the arms have... Sign in to see full entry.

It wasn't in the safe deposit box...

This is when I begin to tear randomly into every pile of this-and-that which has accumulated since the last time I remember seeing it... I had it when I went to Maryland at Christmas... Sign in to see full entry.

Join me in this moment of suspense...

I can't find my passport. Maybe I shifted it downtown to our safe deposit box. I will be running out to check that possibility very soon. If it is not there, the question becomes, how fast can a passport be replaced? ( I have 2 weeks.) And how much will that cost? I hate suspense. Never liked it in... Sign in to see full entry.

A little background--

Some of you who read this already know this, but here's a quick review of the situation that has me en route halfway around the world: My daughter and her husband moved last month to live for the next 2 or 3 years in Singapore. They have leased and begun to furnish an apartment, and the cats and dog... Sign in to see full entry.

I got shot in the arms today--

Four times, in fact: once for flu, once for polio, once for hepatitus A and once for typhoid. It wasn't so bad-- less than a bee sting that goes on hurting for a long time, then leaves a painful lump for a day or two. On the other hand, OUCH! I was busy chatting and didn't even notice the last one... Sign in to see full entry.
