Good News From Iraq

Glenn Beck is a conservative radio talk show host who also happens to have an hour on CNN Headline News. I watch him occasionally. He's a bit over the top, as they say, but, for the most part, I like him. Last night (and, forgive me, it may have been a rerun) he did a small segment of good news... Sign in to see full entry.

In an Associated Press interview, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina stated: "We're on the verge of chaos, and the current plan is not working." When asked who should be held accountable for the war, Graham said: "All of them. It's their job to come up with a game plan..." Yesterday... Sign in to see full entry.

Strategy Session Convened To Change Tactics In A Lost War?

Bush and his beleaguered advisors met Friday and yesterday to rethink their obviously nonworking present course of action in Iraq. They basicly decided to hold course. In his Saturday radio address, Bush stated: "Our goal in Iraq is clear and unchanging: Our goal is victory. What is changing are the... Sign in to see full entry.

Disheartening

The top military spokesman in Iraq yesterday told us that the situation in Iraq is "disheartening." At the same time, president Bush was speechifying his win-at-any-cost ideology to another pre-selected auditorium full of pre-selected rah-rah Republicans. And it is disheartening. Crackdowns and... 2010? What The Hell Happened To 2008 Or 2009?

Army Chief of Staff Shoomaker and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld announced yesterday that American troops would be on the ground in large numbers in Iraq at least through 2010. There are 141,000 American troops in Iraq at present. And, given the current level of sectarian violence and insurgent... Sign in to see full entry.

Insurgents, terrorists, drive-bys, IEDs, suicide bombers, and, now, POISON

Some 600-700 Iraqi policemen were poisoned today after breaking their Ramadan fast. According to the Environment Ministry, 11 have died so far. However, in a conflicting report, the governor of Wasit province where the incident occured, stated that none had died so far, but several were in critical... Sign in to see full entry.

Deadly Are The Days Gone By And The Days To Come...

Curfews and crackdowns have become a cliched litany in Iraq. Kirkuk and Baghdad undergo both continually. Prime minister al-Maliki announced another crackdown a couple days ago. And 26 people died in Iraq today anyway. And seven more tortured and beheaded bodies were found in Baghdad. And Muqtada... Sign in to see full entry.

It Isn't Going To Get Any Better... Ever

Al-Maliki announced another four-point plan to deal with the violence that is destroying Iraq. It stands as much chance of succeeding as have all the previous plans proposed. Meanwhile, 30 more dead bodies were found, victims of torture and brutal murder. Suicide bombings are up in number. The... Sign in to see full entry.
