These Commandments Make Sense, But Handed Down By God?

In looking at the remaining commandments, they do seem to fit into the idea of God being love. Honor thy father and mother; thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal; thou shalt not commit adultery; thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor; thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, etc. These are all based on acts of love. The idea though, that Moses went up the mountain and was given “The Laws” directly from God, is hard for me to accept. I’m not one to believe that there is a... Sign in to see full entry.

More On The Commandments and God's Word

Commandment Number Two - Thou shalt not use the Lord thy God’s name in vain. This is the second commandment found in the King James version of the Bible. It makes sense to me that this commandment is a statement from God. To use God’s name in vain, to use it in an irreverent manner or use it as a “swear” word, is to disrespect him/her. To disrespect is to not hold someone in high esteem or honor, to not act in courtesy toward someone – to not love that person. And for me, acting in a non-loving... Sign in to see full entry.

The First Commandment - It's Not All God's Word

If one believes that God is love, then some of the Ten Commandments do not make sense as laws given to Moses by God. The first commandment (depending on how you interpret the King James version of the Bible – the first commandment can be pretty long, but we’ll condense it here and include the generally accepted version):“Though shall have no other God before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” The first part of the commandment – Thou shall have no other God before me – seems... Sign in to see full entry.

Does Touching God Mean Losing Yourself?

After a week of reflection about the feelings I had last week while attending a baptism, I am more convinced than ever that the "kundalini" referred to in yoga is real, and is connected to the "lumious epinoia" referred to in the Apocraphon of John. I am also convinced that it is a fundamental part of each of us. As Jesus said to John in the Apocraphon, "the power will descend upon every person, for without it, no one can stand." While the feelings I have had in the past only seemed to happen... Sign in to see full entry.

I Saw God Sunday Morning

This past Sunday I watched as my niece's new born son was baptized. And as I watched, that familiar feeling began to well up inside of me. This feeling happens fairly often to me. It is something that I have never been able to explain. The closest I have ever come to describing it is that it is very similar to what I have been told is known as "kundalini" - for those unaware, kundalini is Sanskrit for the spirit force of God that lies at the base of the spine of each person. When this area is... Sign in to see full entry.

Love is Light is Love

The Oxford Dictionary lists one definition of light as "spiritual illumination". It also lists a definition of love as "rapture". Rapture, again according to Oxford, means a "mystical experience in which the soul gains knowledge of divine things." One could then say that love and light are the same thing. And darkness, being the opposite of light would mean the same as non-love, the opposite of love. If that is true (and I think that it is) then some verses from the bible reinforce the idea that... Original Sin is Not What We Think

Sin for me is not hard to define. While the Oxford Dictionary defines sin as the “breaking of divine or moral law”, I don’t see it that way. I believe there is only one divine law – to love everything and everyone. So for me then, sin is all about not acting in a loving way. If one believes that God is love and that committing acts of love enhances God, then any act that takes away from God would be a sin. Since my definition of sin is one of not loving, then the result of original sin doesn’t... Sign in to see full entry.

An Unseen Force Makes Writing This Blog Difficult

I started serious explorations down my spiritual path about 18 years ago but fell off the oxcart about 15 years ago. Up until I started down this path, I was a fairly good kid with a few dalliances into unacceptable behaviors sprinkled in here and there. I had always had a different view of God and religion and paid for it by being punished during Sunday school and getting fed up enough with the whole process to quit going to church at about the age of 16. My journey started in 1986 after I read... Sign in to see full entry.

I Do Not Need to Be Saved

Salvation is not a term I am comfortable with. The idea that I need to be saved by someone just doesn’t sit right with me. We are all on a journey to learn to love and to become one with God. Along the way if we take an action that isn’t loving, then in my book we have sinned (moved away from God or Love). In order to rectify this sin, the first loving thing I could do is to ask for forgiveness for whatever action I took. This is a loving act that enhances God. Once I have done that I just need...
