Life continues
Newborn lamb Originally uploaded by Aeioux. Things like this make me confident that life will go on and that the human race will survive despite the stupidity and ill intentions of those we elect. That is not to say they do not need to be guided in more useful directions.

Clusters in Academia
I have known people who got as far as setting up their doctoral committee only to find that the professors they needed were too arrogant to work together on their behalf. I think in such a case the dean should be allowed to sign off on the student's dissertation and the profs should be fined for...

Why we should ignore the rantings of Don Imus
They call him the "I" man and with outbursts like this most recent and others, the "I" obviously begins the word "IDIOT." It was on his show that Andy Rooney said that African-Americans need to start referring to themselves as "Negro" again...as though what comes out of Mr. Rooney's mouth matters to...

YO! Talk to the kleenex!
So I have a cold this week. How I got it, who sneezed, breathed, coughed or touched the doorknob ahead of me is irrelevant. I walk into work on Tuesday and an otherwise intelligent person admonished me that I need to take care of myself. For a couple of seconds I had a "Fist of Death" moment like...

Golgotha in Hypercubes
Golgotha in Hypercubes Originally uploaded by ShutterCat7. I drew an exploded 4D cube, called a tesseract or hypercube, in Illustrator and put this together. I got the idea from the 1954 painting Crucifixion Hypercubus by Salvador Dali.

Escapade: The Illogic of the Piña Colada Song
This song is nearly 30 years old and since I have it on my iPod I listen to it a bit more than it normally shows up on the oldies station. On the surface, and back in 1979, it sounded like a couple that had grown a little tired of their routine and had rediscovered one-another. But think about...

I AM SOOOOOOO GETTING IN SHAPE
Slightly Younger Eddie The Big Five Two In six years I'll be crossing the River Styx into my fifties. I am going to make health and longevity more of a priority. If I have to sleep every night in a vat of Vitamin E oil, I don't care. I am not going out looking like that, or like I do now. I'll never...
