Drove to the Cathedral yesterday morning, for a College of Canons meeting. As it was my last meeting with the exalted status of Canon (no, not the sort you park on the front lawn. The churchy kind) I particularly wanted to be there. Arrived in good time to robe ready for the Eucharist, only to find... Sign in to see full entry.
Bit thin on the ground at all six of our churches yesterday, it being a Bank Holiday weekend with the sun shining. This is so rare in the UK that the world and his wife flock out in their cars to join streams of traffic heading towards the coast. You can see the attraction. Still, got asked to run... We're back from Singapore after a brilliant couple of weeks. And yes, you who told me to take an umbrella were quite right. As you had clearly noted, it doesn't just rain but precipitates monsoon proportions for a short while, then clears again. Actually, the rain was a relief from the sometimes... We discovered a pheasant’s nest in the Rectory garden yesterday. Actually the furniture men discovered it as they staggered round the corner with a couple of recliner armchairs for our old age. We’re downsizing, so they took away the old and totally clapped-out suite and we now luxuriate in soft... Sign in to see full entry.
Busy day yesterday involving the usual Clergy Dash - a race from one church to another – and then another. Timed to perfection over many years, it would have worked fine except that I found myself nearly at St Margaret’s when I suddenly realised I should be at St Andrew’s, at the furthest reach in... Today's wedding was fun. Took place in our smallest church which seats 80, but there were 120 guests! With extra chairs we managed to seat the 90 adults, which left 30 kids sitting on Mums' laps (at least, that's where they should have been), crying and squealing and laughing and fidgeting. No... It's such a long time since I posted to this blog - before Easter, I believe. Everything went pear-shaped in the Scott household on Easter Day (yes, I know. Perfect timing for a priest!) and is only just returning to normal. After a hectic Holy Week, culminating in a service of over two hours at the... Sign in to see full entry.
Rarely manage to get any time off in Holy Week, but today Ed and I are going to the theatre to see Ian McKellern and Patrick Stewart (yes, none other than Jean-Luc Picard from the Star Ship Enterprise) in 'Waiting for Godot'. Our Easter treat. Tomorrow I'm at a big Maundy Thursday service in the... Sign in to see full entry.
Palm Sunday passed off OK, except that one church didn't have enough palm crosses to give out. Here in the UK, we give crosses made out of woven palm leaves (well, I think it's leaves. Could be bark or stem for all I know. But you get the idea) to everyone in church and like to have a few extra to... Sign in to see full entry.
The school Communion went surprisingly well. Kids really seemed interested and there were quite a lot of questions afterwards. Only two staff and one other governor turned up, but that's par for the course these days. Took all the Communion vessels back to the church then went on into town to... Sign in to see full entry.
