A great return

Ed and I are just back from a great visit to one of our previous parishes. returning to your previous parish is frowned upon by the Church of England - former incumbents are expected to stay well out of the way to give the new incumbent a chance to settle in with the people. However, since there's... Sign in to see full entry.

Education Sunday

Today (I learned at church) is Education Sunday, so we had a sermon and prayers about schools, teachers, governors, higher education and pre-school tots. It's also the feast of the Presentation in the Temple, when old Simeon and Anna recognised Joseph and Mary's baby as a special child - that fitted... Sign in to see full entry.

Charlie bit my finger again

I don't generally post may YouTube videos, but this one is too good to miss! The young mother says:Even had I thought of trying to get my boys to do this I probably couldn't have. Neither were coerced into any of this and neither were hurt (for very long anyway). This was just one of those mome...... Sign in to see full entry.

Panto Spectacular

Fortunately all went well the night we attended our daughter’s pantomime, but on the opening night they had a near disaster Our daughter is the other one in the clip, with ‘T’ on her chest. You’ll be pleased to hear Sarah was shaken but not stirred! She was fine – but didn’t repeat the antic in... Sign in to see full entry.

Back in the swing

Do you find it can be difficult to get back in the swing after a break? Ed and I haven't played golf since before Christmas, but this week decided it was time to get back in the swing. Literally, in this case. He played on Tuesday, I played today. We both enjoyed it, but neither of us was... Sign in to see full entry.

Music!

We had a really good organist at church this morning. It seems to be a different organist every week, so not surprisingly, some are better than others. I think they work a rota between themselves, which spreads the commitment a bit. It was a great pleasure to listen to today's organist, and at the... Sign in to see full entry.

Sad news

I've had some sad news, lately. I had a letter from a friend in a previous parish, whom I haven't seen for over ten years. When I knew him, his daughter, who was in her thirties, was suffering from leukaemia. After I left that parish, we continued to keep in touch with Christmas cards, so I always... Still on about the weather...

It's a national pastime in the UK, marvelling (or despairing)over the weather. We haven't had this much snow for thirty years or more, so the first fifteen minutes of any news broadcast are devoted to accounts of how the weather is affecting British life. Ed measured the snow in the back garden with... Sign in to see full entry.

Undelivered!

I ordered a hamper for my brother in Maryland, for Christmas. I ordered it online from a firm in Scotland, and it was full of good old English Christmas goodies, like Scottish shortbread, English Christmas pudding, Christmas cake, marmalade, and tea! I ordered it on November 16th, and as you could... Sign in to see full entry.

Back in harness

I took all three services at the two churches on Sunday, from eight am to noon. Despite the snow and ice I managed the drive without any difficulty (I only drove to the eight o'clock. Ed chauffeured me to the nine thirty and eleven o'clock services) and thoroughly enjoyed being back in harness... Sign in to see full entry.
