Hitting the wall

It didn't quite happen, but I came close to smacking into that proverbial brick wall today. It was close enough to seriously consider doing things a little differently for at least the next couple of months. For four months I've taken a long walk to downtown Aberdeen, NC before flipping to the next... Sign in to see full entry.

Geez, I haven't had supper yet and it's almost 4:00 a.m.

I can't decide whether I should eat a very late supper or a very early breakfast. I hate it when I get out of whack like this. Especially after spending so much time trying to reestablish a regular daytime, nighttime rhythm. I think I messed up when I didn't hit the hay early on Thursday after a... A chip off the old block

Yesterday I was privileged to see my oldest grandson play in a real baseball game for the first time. It was like deja vu all over again. In his pint-sized baseball uniform he was the spitting image of his Dad nearly a quarter of a century ago. It was a little more than another quarter of a century... Sign in to see full entry.

Happiness is:

Being able to pay the bills with enough left over to slip my boy a few bucks to make hard times a little easier and life a little happier for him and the grandkids. A nice long visit, even though it was via phone, with the two oldest grandchildren and my boy on Fathers Day. In person would have been... Sign in to see full entry.

Weekends come and go

Some are exceptional, and others are...well, not so good. On the whole, though, I think most of us are favorably disposed toward weekends because they represent a break from one work week to the next. You might work like a dog, twice and three times as hard on yard work and home fix ups, but... Sign in to see full entry.

As weekends go,

mine was very good, thank you. My waking hours were pretty evenly divided between the learning the capabilities and limitations of my new computer, quite a bit of reading (both for pleasure and research), and following the fortunes of my favorite baseball teams (the Detroit Tigers and the North... Sidetracked by Memorial Day

It started when one of the cable channels ran the complete Band of Brothers miniseries on Friday. I happened to catch the first episode and was hooked for the duration of the whole damned thing. Rather than sating my appetite for war movies, watching the miniseries left me thirsting for more. I... Sign in to see full entry.

Like a kid with a new toy!

Much to my surprise and delight, Fedex delivered my new computer late Wednesday morning. New to me, anyway. It's a refurbished Dell with Windows XP Pro (and not much else) installed -- and it works! As expected, I'm spending quite a bit of time setting it up and breaking it in. In fact that process... Sign in to see full entry.

Thanks OTA., sam444,

and the many anonymous bloggers who stopped by for at least a quick scan of my first post in nearly two weeks. It was a most pleasant surprise to receive so many clicks since I have been around so little for many months now. The impending arrival of a new (to me) computer, coupled with the... Hi, again.

At the expense of sounding like a broken record (remember those round vinyl thingees with a hole in the middle?), it’s the computers’ fault (both of them) that I haven’t been around for nearly two weeks. I won’t go into the boring and gruesome (to me) details yet again. At least, not here. Maybe, if... Sign in to see full entry.

“Whatever trips your trigger”

was a favorite expression of the Ex. With her it usually carried a bawdy connotation – one of the things, strangely enough, I found both fascinating and endearing about her. It was somewhat incongruous this girl I fell in love with was a person of such contrasts. On one hand she was a Bible verse... Sign in to see full entry.

Thanks northsage_45, Joe_Love, 9STAR, sam444, LonerGreen

for your kind comments, and to all others who have clicked without comment on my infrequent posts over the last week and a fraction. Individual responses would have been preferable, but continuing computer woes have limited my online time so severely it just has not been possible to stay on line... Sign in to see full entry.

A little rain fell on the parade.

Literally and figuratively. We've been going through a period of rainy weather -- and my son's $5,000 winner turned out to be $4,990 less. We're both disappointed, but not crushed. Like the weather, there is little that can be done about it. Other than feeling a little foolish, my son is probably... Sign in to see full entry.

Forget the new toy

Yup, the computer watch turned out to be a big flop. Once again the recent change of address screwed up the paperwork and resulted in no new computer. So I gambled on doing things the hard way -- and it worked. It took a lot of tinkering, but I found signs a life in the old laptop. A lot more... Sign in to see full entry.

Computer Watch, Day 1

Monday was the earliest day my new computer could have arrived. The chances of it making it today were slim, but possible. It was not a major disappointment that it didn’t arrive yesterday, and it won’t be terribly disappointing if it doesn’t make it today. I figured Wednesday or Thursday as the... “Bits and Pieces,” Part 2

Part 1 was an earlier post to “notapoet’s notebook.” I won’t rehash the musical reference here since I can use the clicks. You wouldn’t blame me for shamelessly soliciting clicks on my other blogs if you were also only racking up about eight cents a day recently. I don’t mind not making any money to... Six weeks and I’m still unpacking!

I really like the new place. I’ll like it even better once I get everything put away and dispose of all the empty and half empty boxes and bags. Moving never seems to go very smoothly for me. A lifelong habit of unconsciously trying to save everything keeps getting in the way. Accumulating books and... Sign in to see full entry.

Couch potato heaven!

A little dickering on my part along with a big assist from my son resulted in the acquisition and installation of a genuinely comfortable easy chair for the ol’ non-poet yesterday. It’s beautiful, plush, medium gray previously owned swivel rocker/recliner in excellent condition. I stumbled across it... Sign in to see full entry.

No writer’s block here.

Although I haven’t been around Blogit much for the past many months, I’ve managed to do at least a little writing and a little reading almost every day. This in spite of a recent move and some health issues. It just hasn’t seemed like it ‘cause little of the writing or reading has been here. Part of... Sign in to see full entry.
