When one realizes, there are a lot more yesterdays than there are tomorrows

When there are a lot more yesterdays than there are tomorrows, it comes as a shock to realize and accept this, as a fact. People tell us that 45 to 50 years of age is about middle age. We fool ourselves into believing that we will live to be 90 to 100 but deep down we know better. In the early part of humankind’s existence on earth the average lifespan was about 35 years of life, if they were lucky. I am now 62 years old, and counting. Suffering for my passion, but it does have great rewards, too.

Opening day of the rifle season for deer season in Michigan, is on November 15 th. I hunt from an elevated tree stand and as it turned out, the day dawned to temperatures in the high 20’s with 40 to 50 mph winds! The wind-chill factor 25 feet off ground level must have been in artic temperature range. I lasted less than three hours before it became necessary to climb back down and walk the 300 or so yards back to the house to warm up and add more layers of clothing and woolen mitts to return to...
