This week Smooch’s 4th blood test was disappointing, to say the least. Although his red blood cells are growing, they are still what the vet calls ‘babies’, and his white blood cell count had gone up again. He has been on antibiotics for at least three weeks now, so that puts paid to infections, the... Sign in to see full entry.

THOSE PLEASANT SURPRISES...
One of my responsibilities when working as a Recreation Director was to organize and assist meetings and events. I enjoyed it at the time, but after 10 years it became ‘too much of a good thing’, so I was less than enthusiastic when I was told that yes, I was obliged to attend a kick-off reunion... "IT"S NOW MAKE HIM OR BREAK HIM...
...that’s where we’re at.” I had asked her to be straight with me, and even while the vet’s voice was matter-of-fact, her eyes told me she knew what effect her words would have on any pet lover. I felt my stomach hit my feet. Smooch’s condition was worse than I had even imagined. The word ‘cancer’... Sign in to see full entry.

AND ABOUT SMOOCH...
We noticed his energy had diminished, but put it down to some boredom, some maturity, and probably lack of exercise and her company since Mistress has been working so much and so long. One night I noticed that even his greeting, usually very enthusiastic, seemed to be a huge effort. I called and... Sign in to see full entry.

GOOD CORRUPTION...
“Umm...Boss? You do know that the Olympics are starting next week?” The rather formidable lady stopped and looked at me. “Yes, I do,” she answered. “And?” “My guys are over there. Two of my Hab guys. And they play at noon instead of in the evening.” I grinned at her. I knew it would take her but a... Sign in to see full entry.

MEANWHILE, BACK IN THE BUSH...
When I first joined the office, I warned my colleagues that if there was something that wasn’t functioning quite right, I would be sure to stumble on it. They believe me now. The reports the antique accounting program wasn’t able to generate were the ones I requested. The alarm sensor on the... Sign in to see full entry.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I really don’t know how I ever managed (because once upon a time I could), being part of the rat-race and having any kind of time for other things. I’m still waiting for that moment when my brain catches up to my body...or vice versa...and it doesn’t seem to be happening. My email box has over 500... Sign in to see full entry.

ON NOT BEING AMBIDEXTROUS...
I don’t think it’s the job alone, but the travel and the re-adapting to being away from home 5 days a week for 12 hours at a time...or maybe it’s age. Whatever, I’m not finding it easy. Then I did one better; when taking Grump for his walk last Saturday, I slipped on ice, went down, and badly... Sign in to see full entry.

ONCE UPON A TIME...
Time was already hurrying by, but now it has quickened its pace! This lady is hard put to keep up. When I leave the house in the morning, it is dark; when I get home in the evening, it is still dark. My doggies are pining for more exercise. Helen would gladly walk out with them, but I worry that the... Sign in to see full entry.
