The Trouble With Oranges

I bought some beautiful oranges yesterday ($1.00) apiece and today I tried putting one in a fruit salad and it was horrible inside. Now I'm afraid to try the others. I think I'll just use them for decoration. I had heard it was a bad year for oranges, but I got fooled because these looked so pretty.... Sign in to see full entry.

Best, Easiest, And Most Festive

You've never tasted hot pepper sauce like this one. You've never seen a prettier one for a party table. You've never made one easier without choking yourself on capcaicin steam. If you like it hot, you will like this one. I nearly killed myself with clogged alveoli, wheezing, and coughing before I... Sign in to see full entry.

The Ice Cometh

"...Let him come! I have seen them come before..." ~ Eugene O'Neill A fairy-tale world greeted me that night as I made my way home, a world coated in sparkling crystal coldness, covered tree branches falling, loud cracking and popping, then the tinkling of ice breaking into thousands of sparkling... Vesele Vánoce

My sisters and I will forever be Czech, especially around Christmastime, even though we are really only half. But, it was my mother, and my Czech grandma, and my Czech Aunties who loved everything about celebrating Christmas and impressed upon us all of the Czech folklore, folk music, dancing,... Thankful At Christmastime

"Though I'm really missing my husband this holiday season I remember my Christmas 3 years ago and am astounded at how blessed I have been the last 2 years with Peter Stone and our perfect daughter Marianna. Counting my blessings helps distract me from the crummy deployment." ~ Granddaughter-in-law... Sign in to see full entry.

Peter's Turn

I got a Christmas card from Peter today....all the way from somewhere in Afghanistan. He won't be home for Christmas this year, not unless it is in his dreams. He always loved snow, and mistletoe, and presents 'round the tree. He loved decorating the tree and putting out the little Santa Claus... Sign in to see full entry.

Easy, Easy, Fun, Fun

Cute mini-treats for Christmas company. Even Baisy can do the first part. Of course I have to protect her from the oven and the hot pan. All you need is a bag of mini-pretzels, a bag of Rolo's, and pecan halves. Put the pretzels on a cookie sheet, set the Rolo's on the pretzels, bake at 350 degrees... Sign in to see full entry.

Ways To Keep Warm

Extremely cold weather everywhere, several have already frozen to death in the US. We weren't ready for it, were we. But people are going on as if nothing is different. Our Major League Soccer Team, Sporting KC, is playing here at home. The stadium will be full of crazy fans dressed in multi-layered... Sign in to see full entry.

Changes

A heavy fog morning, with temperature dropping into the cold, cold range, seemed like a good day for wonderful aromas from nutritious hot pots to be in the kitchen and floating through the vents into every room. And so, I already have one going. It is a combo of lentils, chopped kale, brown rice,... Sign in to see full entry.
