more historical ponderings

Probably the starkest comparison between earlier American history in comparison to early Australian history is the fact that American settlers chose to make the journey to the new world often escaping persecution of the old world. My ancestors who came to Australia were all convicts: my direct... Sign in to see full entry.

American History

Interesting points that I’ve discovered from reading American History: - New York was originally called New Amsterdam - Many of the early settlers were escaping religious persecution and were vigorously opposed to mixing religion and government because they had first hand experience of what state... the consolation of the common cold

There’s actually something mildly consoling about a slight head cold. The throat becomes a little raw and the brain becomes washed through in a misty state. You look out on the world with a gently indomitable sense of indifference. The reservoir of energy is empty and unable to generate any stress,... Sign in to see full entry.

me and early american history

So far my good resolution has continued: I did another 20 laps (ie. one km) in the pool before work this morning. AND last night I slept well and didn’t wake until the alarm. You little beauty! So I’m in fairly good form today though I must admit the early risings and swimming does mean I start to... Sign in to see full entry.

yak rump dumplings

First of all a word of thanks to those who left comments for the last post. Your thoughts and suggestions are all greatly appreciated. Well I’m back at work again but started off my day by getting out of bed at 5:30 and going into the city top swim a reasonably paced 20 laps before making my way up... Sign in to see full entry.

i'm in the mood to rumble

On Thursday I arrived at work and was immediately confronted with someone threatening to resign for being underpaid. The thing is the problem could have easily been rectified but some people prefer to endlessly bitch rather than take constructive measures to do what they are required to do to... further post

Today’s a snarling office day but, as I’m sleep deprived, I believe I’m entitled to not only snarl but savage the occasional leg: a nice soft, shapely one. Lunch involved sitting in a park eating a whatchamacallit salad (you know the one with the eggs and bacon and the globulous lashings of... Sign in to see full entry.

Redfern in the Afternoon

I woke at 5am with back pain and a somewhat frustrating paranoid dream. Hey it’s an improvement on 4:30 anyway and I suspect the only way I can negotiate my way through today without turning homicidal is with copious quantities of the second rate coffee that we get in this miserable stinking dead... gnawed at 4:30 am

This morning my spine started gnawing at my back muscles at about 4:30. I’m hoping that dose of pain is some kind of indication that the physiotherapy is taking effect. Either that or I will have to kill someone sometime soon. The physiotherapist did some acupuncture on my back and I suspect it was... Sign in to see full entry.

where on the map shall my finger land next!

Yesterday I found some books in the Town Hall Library: A Walking Guide for New York City; A Guide The North West Pacific Region and Travelling America by Train. Today I bought the first atlas I've owned for a long time and a dvd copy of Michael Palin's Around the World in Eighty Days. I guess it can... Sign in to see full entry.
