Okay...
the insomnia I can relate to but swimming. In a place filled with jellyfish. As a cure for backpain. You poor thing. I hope your back pain corrects itself quickly. I don't even like swimming in water that's most dangerous occupant is a trout.

Swimming is the only sport where about all the muscles are involved and where gravity has few impact! Good luck, and see you around!

I can relate to both back pain and insomnia...
I have found that a product like Tylenol PM lets me get the sleep that I need to cope with finding actual solutions. I only need it for maybe 3 nights in a row, and then my body seems to recall it's own sleep patterns.
I've also noticed that my saggy bed leads to achey back... When I visit my daughter and sleep on a more level (not harder, but flatter) mattress, my daytime pain is considerably less. I have been told I have arthritis in my lower spine, so it would explain why the pain never completely goes away, but sometimes it is more ignorable than others!
If any of this is helpful, good-- If not, then at least you have my good wishes!
