IT WAS ON THAT DAY

It was in 1921 on the 21 st day of January, on a Saturday that Mattie Pearl Mayes and William Curtis Clay were married at the home of James Henry Mayes and his wife Liza Jane Mayes, the parents of Mattie. It was so cold that day, with all the fireplaces fully stoked and flaming high, the wedding cake froze completely.
