Election Quandry

My ambivalence about this coming election grows by the day. I am not a diehard Obama fan, though the squishy, socially liberal parts of me cry out for someone like him to take a turn running this country. At the same time, I'm not a fan of the 72 year old hot-tempered pseudo maverick whose idea of... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, Those Gay Greeks

In my last post, I brought up the Hippocratic Oath merely in jest. I decided to investigate just what it was I was referencing and discovered that one of the vows taken by physicians in ancient Greece (besides "do no harm" and keeping all matters confidential) was; "In every house where I come I... Remodeling Blues

I came home on Sept. 1st to a bewildering amount of clutter in my usually tidy home. Why? Kitchen remodeling. Need I say more? This project extended out to my entry foyer and into two small bathrooms, and included an interior paint job that climbed upstairs to our bedrooms and down to our basement.... Taking Stories to Bed

The life of a magazine writer is a patchwork of mundane and thrilling, solitary and sociable. It requires Rube Goldberg ingenuity to schedule interviews and meticulous travel planning that you hope, as a believer in spontaneity, will go awry. It involves demystifying the mysterious and transforming... Sign in to see full entry.

Gypsy Girl

I wrote this a few years ago and finally dug it out from my files; shows where my head was at the time... GYPSY GIRL Amber was looking for the Town of Sagittarius. It was someplace out West she figured - probably in California, since California was the one State that would conceivably establish a... Sign in to see full entry.

Oregon Trip, Con't

We have seen dozens of sea lions battling it out in a Pacific Ocean grotto during a freak "winter storm" at Sea Lion Caves. We've hugged redwoods in Northern CA and rode waves (YEEEHA!!!!!!) on the awesome Rogue River. My kids climbed the signature rock formation at Smith Rocks State Park - "Monkey... Ore (not yet) gon

First of all, I've been taken to task when calling this beautiful state "Oregone" instead of the proper "Origen" - but however it's pronounced, it is a gorgeous state. Our coastal visit was wiped out by a "freak winter storm" with cold, wet winds coming from the direction usually found in winter. So... Sign in to see full entry.

Oregon Bound - Any Advice?

On Sunday, our family is heading to Oregon for two weeks. I planned what I think is a pretty decent trip. With two teenage boys - 16 and 18 - and a teenage minded husband, I had to keep us from too many museums (more than one - and even that is pushing it), choosing instead to hike on the coast,... Forever 19

My husband, Jeff approaches Monopoly, checkers - any board game - the way he approaches life. He lurches forward with a full-frontal attack that leaves his rivals squirming in the dust. Jeff tries to be like that on the tennis court, golf course, mountain bike trail - any place he can show up his... Sign in to see full entry.
