Somewhere around Portland...
Is the Howard Hughes "Spruce Goose", the largest airplane ever built.  Multnomah falls is right off the highway and spectacular.  The boys might enjoy the Malibu Raceway (if it is still near the Klackamas Mall) these are world class go karts and mini indy cars, if they like that sort of thing.  The Portland Zoo is good and there is the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. (OMSI) or something like that.  There are good beaches around Lincoln City and a casino or two as well.  Bueberries are eveywhere!

Oregon is great!  If I had to live somewhere besides KC, it would probably be Portland.  It will be fun to read what you write about it.

Hey Mal! Why are you skipping Boise!? lol Fort Stevens has a great museum and botantical garden! Cape Mears has the smallest lighthouse I have ever see. The Saturday market on the Waterfront in Portland is fantastic. You must take the drive around crater lake! I hope you have all the fun you possibly can! sammy

Re: Portland has a fine Saturday Market, I believe...
Ciel-  Thanks so much.  We're actually going to Astoria and stay the first night then will head down the Oregon coast to Newport for two nights, Gold Beach then inland.  I'm so excited about the sea lions.  I hope they're still there.  That would be fantastic!!

Portland has a fine Saturday Market, I believe...

if your schedule allows for a Saturday there.

If you take the road from Portland to Astoria, just outside Astoria there is a public marina.  Last time I was there, on one of the derelict docks there were about 2 dozen sea lions basking.

The road that runs that way is slow and citified until you get past that zone into the hills, then it is quite beautiful.  If you can, I recommend going that way to admire the sea lions, but going the other way if you are headed back the same direction. That is, go over the Astoria Bridge into Washington, and take the road  that runs easterly north of the river.

Astoria itself is a charming little city with lots of Victorian architecture.

I've been to Oregon once, Portland, to be exact. Had the best nachos there I've ever had, but it may have been the company and the beer, lol. Also took a flight up to Mt. St. Helens, if you're into that sort of thing - nice view, but a little anti-climactic, if you remember the event that still makes people such as myself want to look at it...Also had some very nice salmon grilled on an open pit...but it was Pacific salmon, and I prefer Atlantic, but don't tell people that if you do when you're there...
