Appreciating Greenland In California

I remember being so excited on the infamous 6-6-06 release date of Cracker's new album Greenland. If I remember right I think I had to wait a couple of days for the album to make its way to rural western WA. Then I remember listening and being surprised, taken aback at how different the album... Review - Bukowski :Born Into This

I just finsihed watching Bukowsi: Born Into This on DVD. The film is by John Dullaghan and was recognized by the Sundance and Tribeca film festivals in 2003. At 113 minutes it runs longer than the average documetary. Dullighan does a great job spanning Bukowsi's life from his troubled childhood with... Sign in to see full entry.

Job Hunting...It Ain't Just To Keep The Unemployment Checks Coming Anymore

Well, after receiving a 0% response to my strategically targeted sales letters it looks like Cargo Copywriting Services is officially defunct. Can I still say I used to have my own copywriting business if it never had any clients? Hmmm. Now I'm sending out resumes, reaching back to my chemistry... Sign in to see full entry.

The Gentrification of an Old Guitar

I took the old Hummingbird down to Gruhn's today to get a formal appraisal. With a price tag of $35 this might seem like a hefty fee but then again George Gruhn is the world's most leading expert on the collectability of guitars. He literally wrote the book, which he consulted. Turns out the... Sign in to see full entry.

My New Guitar Trade-In Nashville Adventure

Ever since I moved from my house into my apartment I have felt the crunch on space. On Thursday my Ash American Deluxe Telecaster became a casualty of this claustorphobia. It had set in its case at the foot of my mattress ever since I moved in. I've moved away from thoughts of starting a band as... Sign in to see full entry.

Alternative Fishing Amid the Buzz of Modern America

Yesterday I assembled my new fishing pole and drove out to J Percy Priest Dam in Nashville to try it out. I sat just below the dam enjoying Nature with Interstate 40 rumbling by just downstream, jets loudly shredding the air a few hundred feet overhead, and titanic power line towers adding their... Playing Open Mics In Nashville

Last night I played at the Bluebird Cafe again. I always enjoy going in there, especially if I have a stamped ticket because that ensures I'll be able to get up on stage and have my seven or eight minutes in the spotlight. Otherwise I have to cast my fate into the "first try" basket and hope for the... Sign in to see full entry.

President Bush's Eclectic Intellectual Curiosity

In a reference to how he is often lampooned as an intellectual lightweight, Bush said: "The key for me is to keep expectations low." I think this is funny quote from the president...its like presidential slackerness. Based on his energy policy and the war in Iraq, I am not a big fan of the president... Sign in to see full entry.

Cooking the Jambalaya

I'm watching the pre-race show on television, while on the stove rice soaks up the chicken broth and juice from the tomatoes. I decided to make jambalya tonight instead of my usual pot dishes of beef stew or chili because its just not quite fallish enough for those two cold weather favorites. Going...
