Yesterday was BBQ Thursday, a regular thing this summer, weather permitting, that Charlie has been doing with friends who game with him, and/or work-out. And me, too. We all bring what we want to eat, often in shareable amounts. Yesterday I contributed some chicken. Not your every day stuff, but... Sign in to see full entry.

Not my kitchen!
I am watching more of that Australian cooking show, My Kitchen Rules. It's a home-cooking competition that starts with each of the teams of two cooks hosting a dinner in their home--an 'instant restaurant.' The diners are all the other contestants who will vote on the quality of the meal. Some are... Sign in to see full entry.

Swai!
If you haven't seen it around, it's a big fish... well, compared to tilapia. I get frozen fillets and today I thawed a couple and baked them with a bit of teriyaki and garlic, and slices of onion on top. They went in for 30 minutes at 375 F and came out very tasty! It's a fairly mild white fish,... Sign in to see full entry.

Hot'n'Sour
I love a good hot'n'sour soup: I will try it every time I am in a new-to-me Asian restaurant. But there are different styles from different countries. Chinese is pretty basic, often just highly-peppered with a bit of tofu in a chicken broth base, a little thickened. Thai, on the other hand, is rich... Sign in to see full entry.

BLTT w/ avocado
Bacon Lettuce Tomato Taco! Not doing sliced bread these days, but I did have a couple of ~8 inch diameter whole-grain tortillas on hand, and three chubby pieces of bacon. No flat lettuce, but a bag of chopped salad. So while the bacon fried (slowly on medium heat), I mixed the chopped salad--cabbage... Sign in to see full entry.

Revisiting chili
Back in March I reminisced here about my first attempt at making chili, and today found a new comment on that post, and that inspired this post! Canned chili... There are many brands, many recipes available. My mom favored Hormel, so that was the one I grew up with, and chose for a long time. But... Sign in to see full entry.

baconbaconbaconbaconBACON...!
Since getting on the keto diet that trades energy from carbs for energy from fats, I have been enjoying bacon again. It was the thick-cut stuff, fried to not-quite-crisp, and very tasty, but I have found something even better. It's a regular thin-cut, less-sodium bacon. It cooks up much quicker to... TV Kitchens
Over the past several days, I've watched The Great British Menu. It's a contest for chefs to get their best recipes included on the menu for a grand annual banquet. This year it was to be held at Wimbledon, celebrating its 140th anniversary. The contest starts with three cooks from each of several... Sign in to see full entry.

Garlic Greens
This morning I snipped some of the long greens of the garlic from my herb garden, to use them like chives on an omelet. They add color and nutrition, and the lightest suggestion of garlic. They are about the easiest herb to grow on the windowsill: break up a chunk of dried fresh garlic into its... Sign in to see full entry.
