It is white out there on the ground today, and that may be so for the next couple of days. Every weather forecast says different things as to highs and lows, so there's naught to do but wait and see what happens. Meanwhile... Here is another of my classical/mythical poems. This was inspired by a challenge to write a poem about a painting. The work was an abstract by Henri Matisse. Here is a very interesting commentary on that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLu07Iyg32Q If I had researched it at... Sign in to see full entry.

More of the Bull and more, besides
Thanks, everyone, for your comments, critiques and compliments on LABYRINTH! Charlie revealed to me last night that he is actually using the poem in his production, having it spoken by the Fates. He has chosen to cut out the last line as being not quite the tone the show is going for, which I understand... but I am wondering if it is complete without some last line. What do you think? A couple of comments were about the use of a rude word. Truth is, that word in that place did what I put it... Sign in to see full entry.

The Bull of Knossos
...the production my lad Charlie is preparing was inspired, in part, by Mary Renault's novels based on the ancient myth of Theseus and the Minotaur: THE BULL FROM THE SEA and THE KING MUST DIE. Another source of his inspiration is a poem I wrote a while back, based on the same myth, and because CCT said such nice things about the poem I posted here about 6 pages back, I am posting that one here: LABYRINTH In the half-lit twistings, turnings... Stink of bull shit... Heaven's burnings in the gut,... Sign in to see full entry.

Moon shots
It's still looking pretty big, and I am thinking, what with the moon setting near dawn, a lunar eclipse is only a month or two away. http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ One reward for waking before dawn is being on hand for moments like the one this morning, watching the moon setting behind the Front Range. We have doves--
They are ring-necked doves, not mourning doves, as I'd thought from their constant, wistful cooing. Mourning doves, by the way, are also called turtledoves, as anyone who loves a good old English ballad has heard of. But our doves are not those. They have finally become bold enough to visit the feeding station on the back porch, but are still very shy when it comes to any attempt to get close, so these had to be photographed through the old class door, and all its scratches. There is something a... Sign in to see full entry.

Kitchen shenanigans!
Last night, Charlie and I made tasty fish 'n' chips. He baked up some fingerling potatoes with olive oil herbs, and I fried the fish--some tilapia and some swai--in a batter of beaten eggs, and roasted garlic flavored bread crumbs. We finished it all off with great pleasure... and then there was the left over batter and crumbs to do something with. I mixed them together in the pie dish the eggs had used, added some frozen onion and peppers mixture, added a couple more eggs and baked it for about... Sign in to see full entry.

The Bull of Knossos
Here it is, the poster for Charlie's show, created by Rob Bourgeois, my housemate. Both very clever fellows! http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/10838094485/ Rob designed the poster online using PowerPoint. Taking a photo of a piece of art work is tricky. I didn't take the time to sort it all out, since I have other things I have to do today, and I wanted to get it up here for you. So-- voila! Sign in to see full entry.

Charlie's putting on a show...
He is currently in rehearsals for a devised performance he's producing at school in December, called THE BULL OF KNOSSOS. I'll get a picture of the poster up on flickr one day soon. And at this moment, he and several friends are rehearsing next door... I can hear the pounding rhythms through the wall. They have started up a sort of folk/rock/fusion band with a lot of drumming (those African djembe drums, and some American Indian drums) and their first gig is the last Saturday this month at a... Gosh!
I am so moved by all the response to my little announcement yesterday! There have been some misunderstandings of my intentions, I think. I am not leaving Blogit because I can't pay the subscription, but because of when the money gets pulled out of my account, which has occasionally mucked up my fragile financial arrangements. So I have told Blogit to cancel my account, which it will do when the current cycles runs out--near the end of the month. I will start it up again to shift the cycle to a... Now, don't get alarmed...
The folks at Blogit have been messing up my finances lately, by taking my payments out just before my rent money comes in, and sometimes there is simply no margin for it. /sometimes, overdraft fees apply, and more than doubles the cost of blogiting that month. So, come the end of the month, which is the end of my payment cycle, I will be leaving Blogit for about two weeks. This should allow me to reset my cycle to a time far more convenient for the money-juggles. So, I will go away (though all... Sign in to see full entry.
