Two notable events today

The first was brief but cheering: As I stepped out of the door, I didn't see the flash but I did hear the season's first roll of thunder! Then I went to see a screening of the National Theater Live's production of WARHORSE. NTLive shows originate in Great Britain, and are broadcast to theaters worldwide. We've seen several productions here: MACBETH we saw a few months ago, staged in a deconsecrated old stone church in Manchester, and starring Kenneth Branagh. There are no great names in the cast... Official Court Drummer

That's the position Charlie has been offered at the Colorado Renaissance Faire, and they will pay him for the ~8 weekends, besides! He's got to get a couple of very particular white shirts made, which won't be cheap, but we'll manage, of course. And one of his sisters is springing for some boots, as his graduation gift. Did I mention, he graduates in May? He is partly sorry for that, not only because his student loan repayments will kick in 6 months after, but more because the classes and... It snew... It has snown...

I know I keep saying this... And maybe today, it's really true: really the last snow of the season. I looked out on the front deck when I woke, to see a smattering of white on the deck, and the street is still black and wet. How surprised I was, to come look out onto the back porch and see the railing under six inches of snow! The lilacs that were beginning to open their leaves and go green, are clumps of white. The trees are heavy with white. And it will probably all be gone by tonight. Or,... Sign in to see full entry.

Wind is up again...

You just can't put hanging plants outside in this town, you'd always have to be taking them in! Looking at the weather forecast 10 days out, it looks like no more freezing nights, beginning next week. Last year, I went away in April for three weeks, and when I came back, the maple tree had burst into leaf--astonishing, that first morning, after getting back here in darkness. Nothing much is new today, I just have one question on my mind: Is our Kabu home yet? It is Wednesday, after all... Or did... Sign in to see full entry.

Sprouts

I planted one of those peat-pot trays, about 50 little pots... four big flower pots, and a couple of hanging pots, 9/10 inches diameters. Altogether, there are now about 10 sprouts spread out among all those containers. One here, two there... one pot has three sprouts! I planted a lot more than 10 seeds. At least the nasturtiums are blooming vigorously, and there have been two blossoms on the hibiscus. It is still too cold at night to put the plants and planters outside, but the leaf buds on the... Renaissance Faire!

The Colorado Renaissance Faire is looking for entertainers, and Charlie had his audition yesterday. He played a bit of tin whistle, delivered one of Benedict's monologues from MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, did some improv for them, and mentioned he plays drums, which interested them particularly as they are looking for a drummer for the Court. First-year performers are generally volunteers, working for tips, but if he gets a court position, he also gets paid. Probably not much, but some. The Faire... Sign in to see full entry.

a new weather forecast

It is not quite 7AM and the first bird of the day is singing the sun up. Yesterday evening, a different one was cheeping through the last light of the day. It always seems to be one last bird, one first bird that lets all the rest know it's time to sleep, time to wake. Each one creates a magic moment. Tomorrow's forecast: 69 F and dust. Winds at 22mph. I predict that somewhere in the area will be also, tumbleweeds. Have you seen the photos? Tumbleweeds massing around obstructions like houses and... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday is garbage day

As soon as I am functional in the morning, the bag of garbage that didn't go out last night, must beat the garbage truck to the bins. I pay a few dollars to share the bins of the guys next door, but when they get busy with cleaning and all, that means the bins are full by Tuesday morning. Admittedly, this doesn't happen often. After cramming my one bag on top, who should appear in the front yard but Madame LaDarque herself! She makes good use of the trees in the front, in fact my first photos of... Being quiet

I haven't had a lot to say lately. I have been reading, but even comments aren't surfacing much, though I am very glad that Baisy's daddy has emerged from the cell phone, and CCT's friends are amusing and sometimes moving as they amble through the country lanes. Smooch and Grump are a charming pair, and I hope Smooch is feeling better! Our Kabu, enjoying her Aussie break from winter, makes me feel ever more and more that I want to go down under again, and see more of the so-much I missed before.... Sign in to see full entry.

I read somewhere

It isn't spring until you see the first bluebird. Well, it is officially spring on my back porch. The male bluebird came to check out the seed cup, and sang in his rather raucous voice, then dashed away when he saw me, to sing loudly in the spruce tree in Charlie's back yard. Another feathered sign of spring is the persistant cooing of the ringneck doves flirting heavily with all the gal-doves in the neighborhood. The gals generally ignore the strutting and puffing and cooing. I planted some... Sign in to see full entry.
