Quick recipes and photos on FAA

I shopped yesterday at Trader Joe's, came home with some frozen "Masala Vegetable Burgers." They are "burgers" because they are shaped into patties, and the suggestion is that they are a vegan alternative to meat burgers. But on buns, there would be just too much bread in the meal, and actually, gently fried in a pan they are very nice, Indian-spicy, not hot-spicy. I thought they'd be good with chutney, but I didn't have any. But wait...! I took a bit of apricot fruit spread, added it to some... Sign in to see full entry.

FaceBook Blues

Okay, I suppose it could be solar flares... I seem to be in a mood, feeling quite impatient with 'clicker bait' headlines and terribly positive sentiments about how to be happy and how to be good. I am exasperated with the Be Afraid and Be Outraged generalities that sum up with a plea for loose change. As if there isn't enough to be anxious and outraged about, really! I don't have any problem with Budi and Gemmi the rescued orphan orangs discovering each other and becoming best friends. I still... Sign in to see full entry.

Necronomicon

HP Lovecraft, and other writers of occult fantasies have spoken of this grotesque and terrible book... the Grimoire of grimoires, books of spells and incantations and dark magicks! Charlie had the delightful task of creating not one, but two versions of this for the show he's in, EXCERPT FROM THE MISKATONIC LIBRARY. Until the show opened, I couldn't show it publically on Flickr, but that time has come. The director was so taken with it, that he wants to buy it after the show, and others have... Going to the Theatah

Last night was the opening of the Excerpts From The Miskatonic Library, the Lovecraftian trilogy of short stories which I've mentioned before. There was some trepidation at the early part of the week: several elements of the production were far from come-together, and that they could do so within a few days seemed as improbable as HP Lovecraft's stories. The costuming wasn't actually late 1920s, as suggested, but they were clearly Not Now, and worked well enough. Lines were fumbled and forgotten... Sign in to see full entry.

Fame and glory, kid--Fame and glory!

http://nypost.com/2015/03/11/the-day-in-photos-278/#3 That's my first-born! The Silk Road Dance Company participated in the Persian New Year celebrations at the White House, and met Michelle Obama in the course of the day. Annie was planning to be a journalist when she started college, but gave that up when Newt Gingrich (slimy amphibian, or irritating rash...?) made her realize she had not the neutrality about some things to be a good one. Despite giving up that path to the halls of power, here... Sign in to see full entry.

In the thick of it now...

Two long rehearsal nights in a row... sitting through the stage-set development, the three parts of the anthology, being observer mostly... getting newly acquainted and better acquainted with the two dozen or so participants... Last night, one of the gals who I know well enough to like her very much as a more than usually decent human being, responded to my How are you today? with a very honest, Not that good. She's very stressed and approaching overwhelmed--or feeling that way--not only because... Sign in to see full entry.

Drop the waist...

...or make it look like you did. The HPLovecraft production Charlie is in is set in the late 20s. The costumer is new and young and I guess it didn't occur to her to crack a book, or go online to research the styles of the 1920s. She just toured the thrift stores and came back with... stuff. The stage manager who wrote one of the three plays in the production, and came to me to read and edit, asked me to take a look at the selected costumery. She knows I have done costuming for theater, used to... Sign in to see full entry.

In training...

It is just about 700 paces, once around one of our unsymmetrical blocks, and briskly walking, that's about 15 minutes. I'd have gone further but it is cold out there, just a little above freezing. A grocery store trip involves more paces and more time, but it isn't what I can call brisk walking, that. Mall walking is warmer, but the atmosphere isn't as nice. If you saw my Travelblogue post today, you know what I am 'in training' for. In other news... Charlie's show that he's been helping create... Sign in to see full entry.

Busy Busy!

The past several days I've spent in the dusty old photo archives rediscovering, polishing and refining... all to add my best shots to http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/cl-redding.html and the response, by visitors to each photo that goes up, is very encouraging. I in turn encourage you to visit there, not just for my images, but to see some of the really fine art that's displayed there! You might want to post a few of your own best creations. There could be pennies in it! Speaking of pennies,... Sign in to see full entry.
