First, I missed the bus I was supposed to be on with my kid to attend his performance in a town 40 miles away... Lost my wallet with driver's license, money, cards and all... And forgot where I parked the car at the bus station... Man, was I ever glad this morning to wake up from that dream! Sign in to see full entry.

Snow Day
Woke this morning to a half-inch of snow on the back porch railing and a forecast ranging from 16-29F all day, and snow flurries. Yesterday, the high was 60F. Yup, this is winter in the Springs! It has been so unlike winters I've known in the several years I've been out here, it's almost refreshing! But again this year will be hard on plants who react to the arrival of spring several times then get hit with a hard freeze that kills the soft new leaves and tentative flower buds. Last winter was... Sign in to see full entry.

Moving on...
Another, shorter binge--watching another British competition show: at the Chelsea Garden Show, garden designers create small lovely gardens, and this show gives 6 amateurs a chance to win that opportunity. Every one of them knows a lot more than I do about garden design, plants and how they grow. So I watch from that wonderful space of wow, look what's possible! In the three- or more-dimensional world, Charlie and I are preparing to participate in the local Galaxy Fest event. This time we will... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday
Sitting at Starbuck's under a sky cloudless except for ~50 contrails in various degrees of disintegration. The world was 0F this morning, now up into the 20s so my frozen cold water faucet in the bathroom is gushing again. Morning sun generally solves this occasional problem. There were big sparkly flakes of snow on the world outside for a while, now also gone under the sun. We have deployed the mouse-traps, diminished the mouse population by 3 since last night. Snap traps are efficient and... Sign in to see full entry.

Embers, auditions, etc
Embers is clearly feeling better: I crushed up some of her favored kibble--the only thing she considers food--and when she started investigating her empty dish I poured some in there, and she just started in on it like she had not eaten for four days. In fact, she hadn't eaten since the night before the surgery. There was concern that the kibble would mess with the sutures (the dissolving kind) before the gums have healed enough, and she really will not eat soft food of any kind, so it had to be... Things are looking up
Embers started purring this morning. but I could not entice her to drink. I've heard that purring actually creates a wavelength that helps healing, so that was very encouraging anyway. Then after some time in her morning sun spot, and some time under the bed, she came out and wanted lap time, purred some more, and then had a couple of little drinks at the water dish. Tonight Charlie is going out to audition for AMADEUS. He doesn't have an eye on any of the principal roles, but there are three... Sign in to see full entry.

Recovery and Renewal
Yesterday Embers had surgery to remove most of her teeth, keeping only the canines which were still healthy. She came home last night and went straight under the bed, only came out to get onto the bed when I turned out the lights. She slept away almost the whole day, some in the sunshine, most on the bed. It is just as well she has no interest in eating since she won't eat soft food, and the kibble could compromise the sutures. She has an anti-inflammatory/pain medication, but as stoic as... I don't know where I will be sleeping tonight...
I have finally begun the long-intended shifting-about of my bedroom, which will entail moving and trading out things that are now in the living room. It is a problem in choreography. At this point, having moved what I myself can safely lift and shove and pull, it is nigh impossible to walk 3 feet in a straight line anywhere upstairs. Things that have lived in the living/dining area are going to be traded out with things that have been in the bedroom. Among these things is the metal trellis/room... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday in the Springs in winter
There was a bright, lovely dawn this morning when I stumbled out of bed, too bumble-headed to know where the camera was last put. I can see it now from where I sit. The day should be pleasant, temps up into the 50s F. After all the whinging I have done lately regarding broken sleep, I made it through last night from 9:30 to 4:30, then went back to sleep for another three hours. So, all in all, definitely feeling on the mend from this head-cold. Yesterday, Mary from Faerie Magazine sent me a... Sign in to see full entry.

too much too soon
Yesterday when I dropped Charlie off at work--he has a badge now that identifies him as "Charles Redding Facilities Manager"-- I went into our unit there and started organizing the costuming we took there from the DressUp Box at the Willowstone Market. I shifted and carried and shoved and dragged for two hours. That's it, just two hours. Hardly a full day's labor. But after those two hours, I was just exhausted! I still have this upper respiratory infection going on, though I have been feeling... Sign in to see full entry.
