Back before Christmas I went to a fund-raiser for a local little theater--Springs Ensemble Theater, the ones Charlie made the big black bird puppet for. In the silent auction, I scored a gift certificate for $25 off services at a hair salon. I set it aside and forgot about it until after the holidays, finally called them to make an appointment to use it the very day it was to expire. (Very short span of time for a gift certificate!) She wasn't in, so I made an appointment with whoever answered... Sign in to see full entry.

Charlie wrote this
...shortly after our Davy died a few months ago. The Tracker Tracks on the old trail unwinding their way through forest and field lost in the rocks and the streams and found again. By day and night the tracks are seen a path meandering with intention following hints of memory instinct and maybe something else something hard for us to understand we are so cerebral. The tracks lead out, and in, and in, and out until you lose yourself in the following. Each print is an echo of the past as much as... Sign in to see full entry.

New Milo pictures
https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/2a1958 He visited this morning for a while, explored the back yard, and we did a bit of treats-training. We focused on come, up!, lie down. That last puzzles him quite a bit. It is all about learning each other's language. He is not that into food treats, so when he goes out, I can't get him in by hollering Come! and offering a treat. However, if I go in the house and bark or woof or yap like a dog, he shows up immediately! Unless he sees that it's me. Then... Sign in to see full entry.

The Voice of Milo
While Charlie was away yesterday, Milo came to hang out with me. He explored the back yard this side of the fence, poked his nose into a few things, and listened to whatever floated on the air... It was the sounds of other dogs that most got his attention. I have mentioned before, I think, that Milo is not a barkative fellow. Charlie has reported that Milo play-barks towards the cat Sokka who is a rather doggish cat, and they seem to be getting on nicely as they get acquainted. Charlie has... Sign in to see full entry.

Milo
https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/2ZBmg8 Energetic but polite with cats and food and toys... hardly barks at all, likes to ride in the car, adores Charlie already, cuddles... He is 9 months old, neutered, and a real sweet-heart, was probably a post-hurricane rescue from Louisiana. He knows "sit" and not much else. He is listed as part border collie, part corgi, and Charlie says his bark is all corgi! But his ears are border collie! Sign in to see full entry.

Grandpuppy! Grandson!
https://www.hsppr.org/pueblo/pets/a1311928 That was where our new boy was yesterday. Today he is sleeping on Charlie's feet. Of course there will be more photos from our own cameras in coming days, but I didn't want to wait! Going to the airport this afternoon to pick up my grandson who has been living in Nevada but wants to move back here. He has a job interview tomorrow at a place called Caption Call which serves the hearing-impaired in their phone conversations. Saturday he flies back, and... Sign in to see full entry.

good newses and clouds
Embers is eating well again, and feeling more chipper again. So far, her test results are good. Could be the problem was a sore throat that the antibiotics have knocked back and, we hope, out. Snow is still on the ground, and will remain a while longer though the skies are clear and bright blue. And it appears that at least one of the doves--the male, I think--is back on the nest, inviting his lady dove to come start a family once again. This is a spring thing, of course, but the weather is so... Sign in to see full entry.

Snow day and Embers
Today was forecast sunny and 48F, after 31F overnight. This morning, however, it was 17, and snowing. It has been so all day. Now, in the dark, the snow continues quietly, casually. Forecast temps for tomorrow morning: 7F. These are not Charlie's most favorite working conditions. Embers hated another trip to the vet today. She has not been eating again, nor drinking enough, and has been having those cough/gag moments she used to do when her teeth hurt. So today, it was tests of every conceivable... What a night!
High winds last night tossed things around on the ground, like garbage cans and anything loose, and whipped through the front deck rearranging furniture and stuff: when a metal 5-shelf plant stand I've just put out there in the corner of wall and railing crashed over, I just left it there, and hoped the roof on the house would hold. It was, after all, only replaced 4 years ago when winds blew 3/4s of it into the back yard. The wind chimes--a bamboo one, and another with little high-pitched... Sign in to see full entry.

GalaxyFest Final
By the close of the event, we had met lots of people we mean to stay in touch with, some each of us will probably do some work with, and some who turn out to be mutually friends with some of our favorite other people. And we 'made booth' which is to say, we had sales enough to cover the cost of the booth, and then some. Maybe not quite breaking even if we count the food bought on site--high-priced and pretentious stuff as this historic hotel in downtown Colorado Springs tries to stay a... Sign in to see full entry.
