Juggery Pokery!

Our Juggerer Charlie has finished with his team placing 5th among the 13 national teams at the Mile High Open, biggest jugger tournament in the US! For a relatively new team, that's not bad! Besides that, he has had tremendous fun over the two days. Several of his team stayed in an airb'nb Friday and Saturday nights, his share being $45 which is also not bad. The team captain gave each of the team members a little model--maybe 3D printed?--of themselves. I'm thinking, I'll bet most sports in... Sign in to see full entry.

Surprise, surprise...!

I was about to step into my shower, but someone was already there. It was pretty big as such things go, it had eight legs, and it was not a spider. It was... weird! I captured it in a large plastic cup, put a lid on it, and then went online to discover the identity of this peculiar thing. It is, in fact, a 'sun spider' which is a common name for an arachnid that is its own kind of thing. Scientifically speaking, it's a solpugid. They like dry parts of the world, and maybe the rains we've been... Sign in to see full entry.

Caliban shenanigans

"Heat advisory in effect from 10am to 8pm today." Predicted high is 97F and my personal prediction is I will be hanging out with a/c wherever I am! I hope they're right about thunderstorms in the afternoon which will break the heat. Caliban poked his face out of the hanging plants yesterday and was happy to snatch several mealworms from my hand. This morning he was out of the leaves again, and I put a stick in his way to slooowwwly climb onto, bringing him in range to eat several more mealworms,... Peaceful Sunday

It's the Golden Hour here, the sun not quite down yet but already the heat has calmed down to the 70s. It will be 90 again tomorrow, but it looks like a lovely evening. No drama today, just pretty quiet. Charlie went to a gathering of his jugger team where they watched video of how the various teams play. It was at the house of the person who took home the folding rocker that Charlie forgot at the league day a month or so ago. It's my folding rocker, a very comfortable camp chair, and I can't... The drama goes on...

Nice day here, expected to get hot but not expected to get into the 90s. There are clouds but no storms--yet! The overall Alliance organization has declared Nationals not cancelled, but now to be held in Tennessee instead of 30 miles from here. That's a major trip for local players, and while the weather in mid-October will probably be nicer than it is in the hot, humid summer, it might include hurricanes. Hard to predict likely weather anywhere anymore. It's also a 2-day drive each way--14.00... Sign in to see full entry.

Going Fishing

We went out to the fish'n'chips truck that shows up once a month about 10 miles from home. We headed there to its usual location--and it was not there! Turns out they were in a new spot about 3 miles from home! On the way there, we pulled over under a tree alongside the road, and watched the hail come bounding and bouncing down, making a fierce tattoo on the roof, and tearing the leaves out of the tree. When it tapered off, we went on up the road, and there were flash-flooding gutters and... Sign in to see full entry.

There's always something...!

Things are cooling down here, thunderstorms are back in the forecasts for the next several days, and we've made it through the worst of the heat for now. Meanwhile, things have heated up with Charlie's LARP group. An issue has arisen which excited one of the more 'karenish' members into blowing it up into probably a bigger deal than was called for at that time who also brought some friends along with her disgruntlement. Reassurances were given by the owners, but... feedback from people involved... Another Monday begins...

Sitting here in the cool of the day--and we're warned of a 97 F high--my brain enough chill to do things like think and write. Also, to get done some housekeeping that has been much neglected of late, and to tap some words into Blogit and other places even before getting to my Wordle, Spelling Bee, and Mini Crossword over on the NYTimes page. later... Word-play is accomplished, a load of laundry is in, and the a/c is making inside nicer than outside where the warmth is now mid-80s. I've had... Sign in to see full entry.

The Golden Hour, Wednesday

It has cooled down after another hot day in the mid-90s. I was going to say 'very hot' and then reconsidered, thinking of how hot it has been--well into the hundreds! in a number of other places. This area often gets it easier. The a/c at the workshop has been repaired: a blocked line caused the leak, and there was an electrical issue which was spotted and also fixed. The ceiling may be just left as is, which is okay as long as nothing falls down. Such heat as we have is still too much for me.... Sign in to see full entry.

Starting the week

Here's Monday again... I have a doctor appt to review how the various meds are working, and Charlie has to meet someone at the workshop--'the guy who looks at the yellow box.' The yellow box is where electrical connections come into the building. I have no idea what he looks for, other than that it isn't obstructed. It isn't. There is another problem, though. Charlie left the a/c going overnight on Thursday, and the collected humidity overflowed whatever is supposed to catch it, and water was... Sign in to see full entry.
