CPTSD: Managing the emotional flashback

A key factor in those of us suffering from Complex PTSD is the emotional flashback. It is triggered by things that may be too subtle for the conscious mind to notice, but the subconscious misses nothing! So... suddenly, the subconscious thinks it is in an old scene, one with sadness, futility, abandonment, all sorts of things that make up depression, and it reproduces the emotions of that scene. It can't help it, that's how it works. We don't realize it because... it is just how we feel! And we... Sign in to see full entry.

Just an animal...

Just a girl, just a housewife... just a janitor... Just... It makes everything it touches, smaller. It shrinks significance and gives permission to disregard. Some words carry the baggage of 'just' even when the actual word isn't spoken. "Animal..." connotes a range of emotionally-loaded, unconsidered derogation, sneering, despising, disrespecting, all the way to simply considering animals as less than humans. This assumption of 'less-ness' is due for some conscious reconsideration. Less does... Sign in to see full entry.

Wrong link, folks!

Charming as it is, the link in the previous post was not the one I meant to share. This is the one: http://blog.therainforestsite.com/freetheelephant/?utm_source=social&utm_medium=trsfan&utm_campaign=freetheelephant&utm_term=20150329 Sign in to see full entry.

We are not the only ones

who are self-aware, and emotionally aware, who suffer loneliness, and rejoice in the love of family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w30hgwFkXd8 Sign in to see full entry.

Answering Dana, and then some...

It's true that to have any in-depth conversation on this subject--as well as many others--it is necessary to define terms, to make sure we are speaking the same language. I think of 'soul' as more personal, and 'spirit' more as what it's made of. But to many, these words are interchangeable. 'Being' is a word I use to speak of entity, generally. As a human being/personality evolves, we tend to go from a very personal, egocentered world to one of connections with family, friends, like-minds and... Sign in to see full entry.

Responding to a comment from the previous post...

Change can be the greatest healing, when one has been stuck in a muddy rut, or even a velvet-lined rut for way too long. It can be uncomfortable, even devastatingly so. It can be the ache of muscles growing. It can be the relief of moving again after long, long, painful stagnation. "Mass energy" is the power of belief: thought-forms that take on the illusion of reality because enough energy coming from enough people feeds them. I agree, there are consequences to mass beliefs, true or delusional.... Sign in to see full entry.

More about God...

...and why God so often fails our expectations. This goes back to why we are here at all, on this physical world, when we are in our essence, spiritual creatures. We are here to learn, and specifically, among all the things we need to learn, each of us for our own spiritual evolvement, we are all here to learn how to make choices. Everywhere around us, choices are offered and some of them positively demand to be addressed; everything has opposites, every story has many sides, dichotomies... Sign in to see full entry.

Worth the almost-half hour to watch and hear

http://billmoyers.com/content/isaac-asimov-on-his-faith-in-the-power-of-human-reason/ I was shocked a couple of years ago, speaking to someone near 30 years of age, who had never heard of Asimov. Who was, incidentally, a friend of my dad's. Sign in to see full entry.

The shape of the world

Beliefs and systems of beliefs create the filters through which each of us perceives and interprets the world. They help us find a place of inner balance, a sense that we understand things around us and keep a sense of manageability: a rational sorting-out of what things mean, what they're worth, and how they relate to all the other things in our personal worlds. Perceptual filters guard against things we don't want to deal with. If a thing can't make it through the filter, it is easy to reject... Sign in to see full entry.

The choice of Evil

E vil is the disavowal of humanity, punishment of humanity in others. Humans have the choice to be human, and Evil chooses to be not. Choices. Always, choices. It's been said that we are here in this world of dichotomies and contraries to learn to make choices. From our first awareness as human beings, we are presented with alternatives, confronted with the challenge to choose. It is also said that making wise choices comes from making unwise ones. Of course! That's how learning happens: trial... Sign in to see full entry.
