Today I go visit a dying friend and hope that it is not my last visit.

I am going to her house with my mom and sister. She was our neighbor when we were growing up and she and I have come to love each other, somehow. I used to go to gallery openings and museum shows on their first day and have lunch and just hang out at her place laughing. On our last visit to her house, she is 90, I believe, we saw that her car was the most dinged vehicle in the city of Tucson. I mean she must have nicked everything that she passed, but swore that others were hitting her when she... Sign in to see full entry.

One of the maestros from Mexico spent her allowance on something electronic

and had no money for food when everyone went grocery shopping on Saturday. I was asked to help her out and told that I would be repaid. I remember my foolish youth and how I spent my U of A dorm allowance in the '60s. Yikes!!!! I never could catch up and lived in fear for one year, hungry and unable to cope. So, I took her to the store and bought her food and then spent the same amount for her to keep in reserve for ANY maestro who found that they didn't have enough money for food because of... Grandma is so hopped up on medicines and her kids keep bringing her

more. We are very Mexican like that. You have something, well, I have something leftover from my illness for that, for you. So, today when my little Somali neighbor called me and sounded like she was turning herself inside out coughing, I grabbed my bottle of Robitussin DM and my honey lemon cough drops and went by her place. Little Adbihafed has it, too. Good thing I took over two bottles. I hate it when kids are sick and there is no money for medicine. I have been too ill to drive them... Sign in to see full entry.

Ill for a week, I took burned chicken from the other day, in a nice juice,

threw in a box of stuffing and ate a bowl for lunch. Too tired and sick to care about real cooking, real food, just something to help me stand up. So many chemicals in that box that I was horrified as I ate it all, while reading the ingredients. HA!!! That helped to multiply a few random cancer cells hiding here and there. Why are sick day comfort foods, hot chocolate, canned soup, ready made banana nut bread, all so very bad for us? At least, if I die today, it will be with a full tummy.... Sign in to see full entry.

Discovered that the median temperature for Patzcuaro is 16C, cold to me.

I will have to change my Arizona clothing for Bolivian or Peruvian, hehehehehehhhh. Will have to take all of my heaters back from the Somalis, hehehehehhhhh. Get more, I suspect. Bummer. So, will take up sitting upon sunny rocks in the countryside there, like lizards do here. The good news is that St. Francis of Assisi is the patron of Tzintzuntzan, my most often made saint. Everyone goes to bed at 10 p.m. and rolls up the sidewalks. My kinda sleeping place. No street lights, so absolute... Sign in to see full entry.

After work today, I felt the need to go to Mom's house and whine. Ha...

She was a teacher and my sister is a teacher and my other sister owns a preschool and I NEVER wanted to be a teacher, except when I was 6 and 7 years old and played at it with friends and family and neighborhood kids. I really thought that I was driving up there to take a hit of some alcoholic beverage out of my father's long neglected bar. He died about 6 years ago and no one hardly ever takes a sip from one dusty bottle or another. Instead, I regaled my mother with raucous tales of teaching... Sign in to see full entry.

Abuelita is now a teacher. No credentials, little experience and a strange

philosophy, but it began to work by the second day on the job. We shall see. I am working at a charter school, appointed by El Centro Cultural as a designated Art Teacher, by some ancillary org. Most of the children have IEDs, whatever those are, I am vague on the definition, and one fellow is autisitc with a helper, thank goodness as she is so helpful to me, too. I teach kinder through 6th grade. I photo'd all the babies the first day and worked on names and faces. When I looked over my faces... Sign in to see full entry.

This place, Chapala, is five minutes from Ajijic, where I want to live.

This is the largest lake in Mexico and lovely. This is my family wandering around the plaza on the water. Sign in to see full entry.

Our Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead Observance, a photo slide show.

I took days to build the altares and they were not finished when photographed here in the slide show, but had fruit, foods, drinks and flowers added later. The celebration was lovely and made lovelier because it included the group of elementary school teachers studying at the U of Arizona for one year, who attended dressed in their native pueblo clothing. They are all from Mexico and Guatemala and need to practice their English more. I am going to try to find more places for them to interact... Sign in to see full entry.

Our city fathers are losing their idiot minds here in Tucson.

My sister has a day care center and her licensing fees are jumping from $150 for three years to $18,000. They under charged for years and just noticed as they have not paid attention to anything in decades, and now they want to greedily, cut all spending except their own pie pieces and then punish all care givers within these business fields. I am pissed. My sister wrote this to me>>>>>This is my fee going up from $300 for both schools to $18,000:) for a three year license. Because they can........ Sign in to see full entry.
