Next stop reached

For those of you who follow me on the map, I have this afternoon reached La Coruña. The hotel I booked myself into is called 'MOON' and it's absolutely fascinating. Rather small, very new and futuristic, even their dishes have names like Moonshine, Moonlake, Apollo, Eternal Steps and some such. I'm... Sign in to see full entry.

How crazy can you get?

Yesterday I went back to the church where the statue of Christ is, who so stubbornly refused to be placed in the cathedral of Burgos and wanted to remain in Finisterre instead. I lit a candle, or rather a few and do you know why? Because I begged for protection on my 'witch hunt'. I'm really getting... Sign in to see full entry.

Witches and food festival

I've found out a little about the witches. They are alive and kicking today, but although they are rumoured to be able to cast a nasty spell, they mostly are more like 'medicine women'. One, about 94 yeasr old, is quite famous and lived nearby. I have a little more work and investigation to do about... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm thrilled by the interest you take..

It's so gratifying to read your comments and see how you follow up on the stories I have to tell. Read nautikos' research into the wreck of the 'Serpent' and how sam444 collects pictures of lighthouses. Here is another story I found out about: In Cap Finisterre, where I am now is a church dating... Sign in to see full entry.

The mystery of the bronze boot lifted!

Trust me and my morbid imagination to think that the boot marked a spot where some lost soul felt the urge to end it all. I did of course make enquiries and the real significance is less spectacular but certainly more noble: Cap Finisterre marks also the final point of the pilgrimage along the St.... Why did I make fun of hiking?

I can hear you giggle! Here I am saying I dislike heavy footwear and rucksacks and now I am obliged to hike even more if I want to see what I want to see. No, no rucksack, but heavy hiking yesterday, more than 7 miles, half of them uphill to the famous lighthouse in Cap Finisterre. But, I have to... Sign in to see full entry.

Greetings from the end of the world..

I´ve finally made it to the Coast of Death and pricisely to Cap Finsterre. My one day stay in Santiago to be able to make the connection to here was fruitful too as I discovered the story of The Two Marias who were astonishing popular characters of the town in the 50s and 60s. Two sisters who had... Sign in to see full entry.

Nature, nature and more nature

I´m afraid, vogue is undergoing a personality change. I´m not really such a nature freak, I´m not into hiking and any activity which involves heavy shoes and carrying equipment. I´ll swim, walk along a beach, sail, do anything on and in water, even descend into ancient tunnels, but today, I actually... Sign in to see full entry.

Vogue has cheated!

You may recall that for the purpose of the book, I´m moving around as much as possible by public transport. Well, today I cheated and indulged in the luxury of a taxi to visit the town of Baiona (Bayonne). But, it was worth every penny. My taxi driver was a young guy from Venezuela and absolutely... Poetic pilgrimage completed

Back to Rosalia de Castro and sinome´s knowledgable comment. Yes, she was the illegitimate daughter of a catholic priets and to make matters worse, her mother was a noble woman. Of course, a child like that MUST become a poet!! My visit to her house and museum in a small town called Padron, half way... Sign in to see full entry.
