Broccoli looking good!

My broccoli in my garden is looking good. The little heads are already starting to come out. One is fairly big. I have a couple of questions and maybe somebody reading this can help me as I have never grown broccoli before. When do you cut the heads? Does the plant make more than one head? If... It's pretty much all gone now!

The bitter cold in Texas last week that persisted for several days has finally done my garden in. I have pulled up all but a few plants. I have some broccoli and a few herbs left growing. I have some compost crops hanging on, but that is about it. I pulled up all my tomatoes and peppers yesterday. I... Sign in to see full entry.

It's not much of a garden at all now!

No, it’s not much of a garden now. The hard freeze we had yesterday morning did in most of my plants. I thought some of the plants I had close to the house might have survived, but they did not. Of course, these plants were tomatoes, peppers, squash that was living on borrowed time anyway. All is... Sign in to see full entry.

It's just a mess

The cold spell last week along with the incessant rain we have had over the past few months have laid waste to some of my garden. This is to be expected during the winter, but it hurts to see such once vibrant and blooming plants reduced to a mass of withered leaves, vines, and stalks. It is just... Sign in to see full entry.

It is pretty much a disaster area!!

Well, it pretty much official. I will call in the FEMA people and see if I can get emergency aid for my garden. We will have to wait until some of the water goes down before we can assess the full extent of the flooding. It won’t be pretty though. I know a garden needs water. Any novice gardener... It may be declared a disaster area before long!

The rain has really taken a toll on my garden. We have had about twice as much rain for the month as we normally have and the month is barely half over. It is wet and will stay this way for a long time. I don’t think this will be good for my plants. I have most of my beds raised though. That should... Sign in to see full entry.

My squash has squash on it!

I have a few small squash on my plants. I think before we have some very cold weather to kill the plants I will do pretty well with my squash. I have plenty flowers on the plants at this time and a few have to become squash. I have a few tomatoes on a plant and a few plants that have flowers. So I... Sign in to see full entry.

We need to dry out some, but the garden is looking great

My garden looks great for this time of year. I still have tomatoes on the vine. They grow much slower at this time of year, but they are growing. My squash are doing fine, but they are not putting on any fruit. I may need help getting them to put on fruit. I have tons of flowers, but no fruit. My... Sign in to see full entry.

Rain was nice, but too much and too hard!

The rain we had over the weekend was nice and much needed. It came too hard and we had too much of it for one short time. In general though it did my garden good. The worst thing about rain and warm weather here in Texas is that it brings out bug and plenty of them. I am having many types of bugs... Sign in to see full entry.

It's just so peaceful

Each day when I get home from work I hurry to change clothes and go out in my garden with my dogs. This is the most peaceful part of my day. After a hectic day at work and dealing with life I get to come home and do what I really love. I grab a beer and set out to my peaceful abode. I have several... Sign in to see full entry.
