Today’s Lesson - 24/05/07

Computers are now indispensable. Allow me to tell you how I found out this self evident truth. I was/am/always feel guilty when I’m not writing. Sure I take lots of notes and also try to remember the profound comments people make, but finding the time to make these notes and comments into a coherent... Sign in to see full entry.

Today’s Lesson

I passed one of those signs at the roadside yesterday. You know the type. Sometimes they will tell you that ‘ He who hurries stops oftener. ’ Actually it states that ‘ he who hurries stops more often,’ but you get my drift. Yesterday’s sign read ‘What have you learned today.’ I just burst out... Sign in to see full entry.

It pounced on May 9th.

It wasn’t entirely unannounced. There had been intimations of its arrival, but when it came on Wednesday, we were all in a kafuffle as we hadn’t expected it until Victoria Day, which is around the 20th. Victoria Day is known as ‘Planting Day’ in this part of Canada, which tells you how short summer... Sign in to see full entry.

Brainwashing by the Gas Companies? Never!!

I had a first hand ‘light bulb’ moment – not an old fashioned power-wasting Edison bulb moment, more of an energy efficient moment – of how the gas companies are brainwashing us, when I pulled into a gas station this morning. The price was 100.8 per litre. Isn’t it cute how they show the price in... Sign in to see full entry.

Gutter Frontage?

Ell and I went to a tag sale this morning. A tag sale is a bit like a garage sale, only it isn’t – if you know what I mean. A garage sale is held outside or in a garage (surprise!) and does not encroach on the home of the vendors. A tag sale means going into the garage and the home and rooting about... A Dark Night of the Soul.

A frightening, week long dark night that I hope never to relive. At first I had no idea how it began, all I knew was that the world I found myself in was full of foreboding, fear and failure. The more I tried to rationalize the feelings the blacker they became. Self loathing was just the beginning.... Sign in to see full entry.

Crystal Ball Gazing Government?

Ell and I are thinking of booking an appointment with a Life Coach. The idea came after watching the Canadian Prime Minister (Stephen Harper; he of the dead eyes) being prepped for a press conference by his ‘Appearance Coach.’ The lady in question, who just happens to be a seer as well, straightened... Tank Surprise

My previous post got me curious. Guess who makes the Leopard Tank? Give that man a coconut, yes it is the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), of Munchen, Germany. I also found out that as late as 2003, Canada was contemplating mothballing their 66 tanks (another 6 added on to that and I would be having... Sign in to see full entry.

Three Questions

Canada has troops in Afghanistan, and so far 50 of those soldiers have been killed in this war against the Taliban. Most of the soldiers are killed by IED’s, or Improvised Explosive Device– a farcical new term for ‘Roadside Bomb.’ The reason the soldiers are being killed is because the Canadian... ‘Screw You,’ in Officialeese.

A reply to Ell’s multiple e-mail zapping of the other day: In response to your email I can only state what I have told you in the past. The only way to deal with this problem is to do it through a local improvement. The municipality does not correct drainage problems on private land. I would suggest... Sign in to see full entry.
