johnmacnab is falling down, falling down, falling down

I’ve been told countless times that my humour does not travel well, so as you read this, remember that some things are real but the denouement is fabricated – up to a point. Talking about humour not traveling well, would you take this next comment at face value or treat it as a joke…. The games... Sign in to see full entry.

Of Phishing; Pushy Old People, and being Ignored

It happened on Friday. I got my first ‘phishing’ email. The pop-up said it was from my bank and the first thing I thought was ‘oh shit!’ as one does. Without thinking any further, I opened it and read it. The first giveaway that it wasn’t a genuine email from my bank is the fact that they don’t get... Sign in to see full entry.

Auction Fever ?

On Saturday morning Ell and I went yard sale-ing. It wasn’t her normal yard and garage sale early in the morning, where I wake up just as she is coming home. This was a district yard sale or should I say, IYS for Island Yard Sale? Over the years, this yard/garage sale has grown until it is now a... Sign in to see full entry.

What in Space is the Problem?

NASA has spent almost a week deciding whether to fix the small rip in the shuttle’s exterior. A week deciding whether to fix it or not? They are making, or not making, the decision as if they were the AAA and had their fingers crossed that the client would make it to the next village before they ran... Sign in to see full entry.

I’m a Dog’s Breakfast – it’s Official

Let me set the scene for you. I was researching the word ‘tattoo,’ as in military tattoo. The word comes from the Dutch tap and toe. I know what it means and why it was used but I want to know in which particular Dutch/English war in the 17th century, it became common. All this so that I can... Sign in to see full entry.

Harry Potter Movie

I wish Drive-in-Movies would make a comeback. Not that I’ve ever seen a movie in one, but many years ago when visiting my daughter in Texas, I asked if there were any drive-ins in the area. She drove me to one and showed me where it used to be. The undulating pavement was cool, and I don’t... Sign in to see full entry.

Hitchhiking Dog

Solved! We couldn’t keep it for long, as it would have been trapped in that travelling kennel for ages until we figured out how to stop Sam from letting it know in the most strenuous terms that it was Sam’s territory. We took it back to the nearest village store – 10 miles from where we found it –... Sign in to see full entry.

To Abandon the Dog or Kill it?

Not a decision we thought we would have to make this morning, but tonight it is keeping us awake. It started with us rushing to our daughter’s for a rush baby-sitting stint very early in the morning. Ell was driving as she was more awake than I was. I was yawning and pointing out the road kill on... Sign in to see full entry.

How curiosity almost drowned the cat.

Mostly I have overcome my fear of water – mostly. Monday’s lesson was the third one in the deep end, and as long as the instructress is there I feel relatively safe. But on this lesson, instead of taking a deep breath and pushing ourselves down in the deep end, she suggested we (the other learner... Sign in to see full entry.

Yesterday I was reminded of Archimedes and his Principle.

I was of course reminded the hard way, or should that be the wet way? My fluid mechanics lesson occurred after my swimming lesson – yes, I’m still taking swimming lessons. I can now swim a length of the pool without drowning, as long as I know the instructress is there to bail me out, so to speak.... Sign in to see full entry.
