Radical Way Discussion Continues

What I want to suggest about forgiveness relative to what Yolanda's article said (previous post) is this: We forgive because we know the pain of unforgivenss and false judgements against our own being. We forgive because we begin to discover through our own pain, the we are the ones who created that... Sign in to see full entry.

A Radical Way to Understand Forgiveness

I found an article in my email today that got me to thinking about forgiveness from a radical perspective. I am using the word "radical" in its original sense, meaning: "back to the roots". To follow my insight here I offer the article as I received it. I will then makes some comments on forgiveness... Sign in to see full entry.

Myth: We are Separate Beings

I expect some controversy over this thought. Thus, I was hesitating to get into it. But I already generated some comments, so here goes. Perhaps the New Testament thought about being one body is a good way to approach this. Paul says we are all members of The One Body. It would not make sense for... Sign in to see full entry.

Why we can't forgive: We continue to re-member the pain

We continue to re-member the pain (thereby refusing to be healed fully, of the pain). This one is tricky. We need to re-experience the pain as part of the healing process. But that is the only context worth re-membering that pain. Do not revisit the events unless you go there for the purpose of... Sign in to see full entry.

Myth: Wounded so Deeply, I can Never Forgive

We think the wound was so deep that we will NEVER fully recover and be healed of the hurt or whatever other negative, separating emotions we have created in response to the offence. This is simply not true. There is no wound so deep, no hurt so big that God cannot heal us! To think otherewise is to... Sign in to see full entry.

Myth: If I forgive, I must immeadiately Trust the one who offended

This is just untrue. Forgiveness is first, an act of will. Jesus said be gentle as a dove, but wise as a sperpent. We do not have to dumb down to forgive. If you left your car unlocked and someone stole something very valuable from you, you could forgive them, but you would still be wise to lock... Sign in to see full entry.

If I forgive, I am somehow accepting, even condoning the bad behavior

I have heard this lie before. Forgiveness, is not possible unless we perceive real hurt. So forgiveness implies that the offence was real, the behavior, unacceptable. We may have all heard of parents who have forgiven one who murdered their child. Does this mean they think murder is OK? Of course... Sign in to see full entry.

The Complete Book of Forgiveness - Why we Don't Forgive

If forgiveness is one of the MOST CENTRAL tenants of the Christian church, why is it that so many of us either refuse or find it impossible to forgive certain actions or events in our lives? I would submit that the reasons for this are tied up in our (false) beliefs about what forgiveness is, does,... Sign in to see full entry.
