What makes a champion?

Ricky Carmichael continues his assault on the record books and his competitors egos. He swept Washougal with a 1 – 1 finish leaving the field with their tongues dragging on the ground. Last year at Washougal I had the opportunity to watch RC in action. Quite simply he gives it everything he’s got.... Sign in to see full entry.

The road to Washougal.

Before one can compete at Washougal, one must get there. It takes about 7 hrs from my front door to get to the hallowed ground of Washougal MX park, but the drive is an adventure itself. My front door lies in a narrow valley that is mostly farmland and the hillsides are wooded. The drive to Spokane... Sign in to see full entry.

The road to Washougal

A pleasant hillside resplendent with large evergreens, deep shadows and rolling terrain will be the site of the next AMA motocross National round of competition. Tonight a steady stream of amateur riders will spill into Washougal MX park and stake a campsite/pit area. As many as 1400 riders show up... Sign in to see full entry.

And the beat goes on.

One more time the yellow machine of Ricky Carmichael took both motos for a perfect day. Mathematically, he could skip three rounds and still be in the points lead. Kevin Windham pulled two second place finishes followed by Chad Reed in third. Surely the rest of the pack must feel like, like….well,... Sign in to see full entry.

The leader rides yellow.

Suppose Lance had won every stage of the Tour de France every year for the last 6 years. That would be tantamount to what Ricky Carmichael has accomplished in motocross. Two perfect seasons in the outdoors. That’s two years winning every single moto and then there is Supercross where he also... Sign in to see full entry.

The dirt on Ballet on Dirt

Read all about the latest motocross racing! That was the original intention of this Blog, but now with the races being telecast a week after the fact, it sort of takes away my fun. I would watch the race then give you the lowdown on action that others might not have covered or noticed. But now, with... Sign in to see full entry.

It’s a dirty world after all.

Red Bud Michigan, Ricky Carmichael sweeps the competition again. It’s getting to be a story as old as the Seattle Mariners missing scoring opportunities with the bases loaded. Chad Reed finished dead last in his first moto. Since I have not seen the race I am wondering if Chad fell victim to... Sign in to see full entry.

Ballet on dirt with balls.

It’s secret time. I have to admit something pretty shady about my character. First of all, Ballet on dirt is mostly about dirt bike racing, both the AMA pros and my own son in his quest for local recognition. It is also about my older son who races radio control cars on outdoor dirt tracks. Now the... Sign in to see full entry.

Southwick, Budds Creek same old tricky Ricky.

The race at Southwick was at least a change in the first moto. Ricky Carmichael tipped over and had to lug that heavy 450 back to the upright position giving Chad Reed enough time to open up a gap that not even the swifty Ricky could overcome. The second moto belonged to Ricky as he opened up a 20+... Sign in to see full entry.

Southwick MX, Reed steps up, sort of.

It has been a long time since Ricky Carmichael has lost a moto outdoors and his nemesis Chad Reed was the one to win the first 250 moto of the day. Ricky won moto #2 thus taking the overall via the tie breaker. Reed has to feel good since nobody but nobody thought RC would be beat. Further back in... Sign in to see full entry.
