One Wheelchair User Thinking...

I read this amazing article by Gary Presley. I was forwarded from ADAPT which I would have missed was I not a member of their organizer’s list. Like me, Gary lives a happy, productive wheelchair users’ life. Like me, he finds his electric wheelchair liberating, nor we are not “confined to” it, a demeaning term that some able-bodied people use to describe our life altering mobility equipment. Like me, he says, “I may be sitting down, but I intend to dance through life until hell freezes over.” I... Sign in to see full entry.

Bigoted Talk Show Host!

On the radio today, I heard this man Michael Savage say that people on welfare should be denied the right to vote until they get off benefits. I wonder what this means for disabled people or old people who are on benefits of some level usually. I think this idea very bigoted. Tomorrow, I'll write him an email explaining my objections. Philly Wins!

Got the following message from my activist buddies in Philly. It was sent at 9:33 PM yesterday. They got a meeting with the Mayor by the end of September. If he's smart he won't try to get out of it, otherwise my friends will just be back again. The actual victory email follows. "After 5 nights and 6 days of disabled activist from ADAPT of Philadelphia camping out outside the Philadelphia Nursing Home Mayor Michael Nutter finally came out in public and said he would begin the phased closure,... An Open Letter to Mayor Nutter of Phildelphia

5in 11in; margin: 0. 79in } P { margin-bottom: 0. 08in } --> Author's Note: As many of you know my colleagues in Philadelphia are vigiling (for three days straight) as I write this in front of the city funded Philadelphia Nursing Home, a very bad nursing home in Philadelphia. They are seeking to get 50 beds in that nursing home closed within 6 months and transition them into community services, like me and my friends have. I called his office this morning and after some rigamarole I got through... Sign in to see full entry.

Vigiling to Close Nursing Home in Philly!

I'm a Pennsylvania native and as many of you know, I needed to leave my state to get needed services to live independently. Today, I am proud of my folks! In Philadelphia, rotesters spent their first 24 hours camped outside ofPhiladelphia Nursing Home yesterday, holding a solemn candlelight vigil for the People who Have Died at and the People Wanting To Get Out of Philadelphia Nursing Home (PNH). ADAPT is wondering when Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia will wake up to the abuses and the... Sign in to see full entry.
