Oh, I've got bad news about the bad guy...

I'm going to post a little excerpt here in a minute, and please remember it's rough draft, subject to revision. It grew among the 3000+ words I got on paper yesterday. Not quite as many as my record output of a few days ago, but enough to leave my joints crunchy and my body struggling to unbend when... Sign in to see full entry.

Well, I did it! The scene that made me cringe.

I got inside the mind of this sadistic creep who went after my character Louise. He enjoyed instilling fear. He ran his knife along her neck. He assaulted her on the bathroom floor while her little girls napped just down the hall and the boys were watching TV in the basement family room. He... Sign in to see full entry.

The writing life...

When I was a kid we lived in this itsy bitsy little village -- about 50 families, 250-300 people. Most men were directly involved in the logging industry, cutting trees, trimming, hauling. There was Talbott's general store and post office, including a butcher shop, McDaniel's Telephone Exchange and... Sign in to see full entry.

Pride goeth before a fall. Boy, does it!

My word count yesterday: 361. That's like one tenth of the previous day's. What a slacker! I edited a bit, dithering and delaying about the idea I'm cringing from. I went out for lunch, took quite a while. Watched people. It was Burger King, they have a playroom, there were at least a dozen little... Sign in to see full entry.

Yesterday was a good day for writing...

Highest single-day word count yet. Over 4,000. I just got to following a thread and couldn't quit until I found out what was going to happen. Turns out old bland as oatmeal Herb is more interesting than I thought. He's using his facade as a boring bean counter to conduct a bit of psychological... Sign in to see full entry.

How long is a piece of string? -- one answer and a wise poem

So the answer is: exactly twice as long as the distance from one end to the middle. I think this convoluted puzzling is rather elegant in its own WTF way. I believe it's designed to gauge the creativity of the test taker, to see if they're able to think outside the logical confines of the expected.... Sign in to see full entry.

Funny thing about this NaNoWriMo project...

It gets my mind going on other writing projects. Like this one I'd half forgotten about, titled "Living Her Life." It's about this guy who's slipped into his wife's life and forgotten his own. Suddenly he 40-something and remembering the freedom of the open road. He realizes he's not living his own... Sign in to see full entry.

Yesterday didn't go as planned.

I expected the Flubby Ducks guys in the a.m., and so kept writing about Herb & Louise. Helped the word count, but I had groceries to shop and people to see. Dave finally called at a little after two -- while I was taking a break to watch my favorite soap opera. He was half an hour out and on his... Sign in to see full entry.

Baby Steps, Hesitation and WTF

I've met my quota for NaNoWriMo as of yesterday by the skin of my teeth. Interruptions abound. Dave from Flubby Ducks came to check the basement carpeting. He says it will be dry in one more day, and then leans on the doorjam to chit-chat about the weather... He was here Monday and Tuesday, too.... Sign in to see full entry.

Adapted from today's headlines...

This father served time for armed robbery, was arrested for leaving a firearm where an unsupervised minor could get hold of it. The 8-year-old tried to rob a little girl at their day-care center, using a gun he had hidden in his backpack. That’s my boy! My pride and joy, takes after his ol’ man,... Sign in to see full entry.
