Re: Nautikos -- the strange prissiness of saying "alleged" shooter...
It's strictly a CYA formality (cover your a**) to prevent lawsuits. If the news anchor says Jon Q is the shooter and it later turns out he wasn't, he and the station are potentially liable for libel or slander... Every perp is alleged until found guilty by a jury of his peers. Then it's okay to call him a mad dog killer...

I love it, there's real substance here. And why does Shelley Newsome remind me of Mrs. Wiggins? Remember her?

What is it with us and our morbid fascination with death and destruction? Although I find that, in interesting ways, the networks often milk these events dry to a point of tedium, where we then quickly lose interest...
The other thing that gets me is this strange prissiness, referring to the killer as the alleged shooter...I'm surprised they don't speak of the alleged dead and wounded, although that may well happen one of these days...

It's horrible this ghoolish fascination with blood and crime, but it's human nature. I once read an interesting analysis: we are so prone to looking at other peoples' disaster because deep down we are grateful it wasn't us. This time around!

That's the way it is with all tragedies, one hates it but just cannot look away. I guess it's always been that way, it's just that everything is world-wide now with all the technology and media.

Darlin' I have edited my blog to explain that a pigeon pair
means that you have two children a girland a boy,,,,,one of each. We Australians do have our own expressions and I truly didn't realize how confusing it is to read us or to talk to us. Wiley is always looking lost. I am more than pleased when asked for an explanation because I dowant to communicate with my new Continent of friends.

You express so well you are amazing to me.I agree these news
channels just don't have enough stories to keep going 24/7 so when they get something they really do look smug. Like the balloon boy hoax, I felt that the newscasters were just waiting for a little boy to fall to earth or be found dead.

Yes, the press loves stories like that; really good for their circulation. The situation goes from bad to worse for everybody involved in this terrible war. Have a good day.
