Eavesdroppers Never Hear Anything Good...

I made a round of the Goshen market, the scone lady had already sold out of the cheese and mustard ones. So I settled for zucchini and onion. We'll see how that goes. I found some small cucumbers, a real zucchini, an Italian torpedo onion (?) and then I found a seat. I'd stay a few minutes. Maybe... Sign in to see full entry.

Shut up, already! That's their verdict.

Ya said it. I got it. What's next? At our writers group meeting last night several of us shared the "long-winded" award. It's small comfort to know I'm not the only one who overwrites, swamps the reader with details, belabors the point, lectures and narrates instead of letting characters show and... Chicken Paprikash...

When I get up from reading all my favorites here, I'm going to make crockpot chicken paprikash. It's a new recipe for me -- something I spotted in one of those free magazines they give you at the grocery store so you'll buy all the ingredients. I'd never stocked my spice rack with cayanne pepper --... Sign in to see full entry.

I was busy in the '60s. No time to turn on, tune in, drop out...

I found this book on the free table at the library bookstore Timothy Leary: Outside Looking In. Turns out it's a compilation of articles and remembrances from his funeral. These days I'm pulling together bits for the NaNoWriMo marathon in November. "My Disco Ball is Broken" involves Herb and Louise... Sign in to see full entry.

The Grim Reaper is taking 2009 into the shadows...

Has it been one a week, or more? It seems the lights are going out. Now it's Patrick Swayze. He was a real swashbuckler in the movie, I think it was "Roadhouse" where he played a skilled martial artist bouncer. And such a beautiful, physically coordinated dancer in "Dirty Dancing." Romantic in... Sign in to see full entry.

Lunch with a "friend."

Sometimes a friend will say a thing so unfeeling, so fundamentally self-centered and stupid your mind goes blank, staggering and stunned in a frozen wasteland. Having no idea how deeply her verbal arrow has pierced you, how it has literally stopped your mind, she may drum her fingers impatiently... Sign in to see full entry.

The Lady in Red...

Everybody turned to take a second look as she walked from booth to booth at the Goshen farmer's market. Chatting graciously, smiling just enough, tilting her head slightly to listen, she was a woman of a certain age who'd mastered the fine art of mingling graciously. In the jeans and tee-shirts... Scones, Ceramic Dinosaurs and Fresh Green Stories

Huge juicy peaches are at their peak these days, but the farmers are only selling them by the half-bushel, and I could only eat two before they all went to mush. I have no intention of canning, pie-baking or boiling jam. But they look and smell heavenly. The Queen's scones -- Brit style flavored of... Sign in to see full entry.

Put me in, Coach... I'm ready to play.

On Sunday Jean showed up at the library, and we had a nice conversation once we changed the subject from her dangerous nephew. He'd been there earlier, pacing the floor and muttering to himself, but left half an hour before she arrived. He looks fierce and angry. She said she's got a laptop, but... Something's wrong...

The Write Place group meets next Thursday, tomorrow's my deadline for five pages to share with them. But I've come to a screeching halt. It's not just because I think they're stupid. I mean, a couple of them are brilliant. But the one guy's just looking for fans, for a new forum to talk about his... Sign in to see full entry.
