I found this article among those to be added to the Leclaire Historic Neighborhood website. Mr. N. O. Nelson, who founded a bathtub and plumbing components factory about 30 miles east of St. Louis in the late 1890s, was a proponent of profit sharing with employees: April 14, 1894 -- New York Times... A 70-year-old protagonist? Tell me more.
I'm reading a story now, sort of against my better judgement. It's called "Visitors" by Anita Brookner, who's published 17 novels and is -- or was -- a Slade professor at Cambridge University and lives in London. Not that I can really appreciate what a Slade professorship entails. But I'm assuming... Sign in to see full entry.

Ah, you thought Chris was...
Well, he is a cute guy. In fact, about 4 years ago, he's the guy at the company formerly known as Datajacks, who actually built my computer. He's one of those handy guys who knows his way around a circuit board. And he's a year younger than my own baby boy. If he were single and I were 30-something... Sign in to see full entry.

Chris just fixed my internet connection.
Changed out the card in the computer, reconnected the ethernet cable, got the IP address functioning again, and then, as he plugged everything back together, he had to reconfigure the Microsoft program. It does things to keep you from copying the software from one computer to another. Consarn you... Sign in to see full entry.

The Farm revealed in "Inside Out," a new book
You know the Farm isn't where butter and eggs come from. If you read spy novels you know it is shorthand for the CIA's top secret training facility. An operator isn't a guy who's smooth with the ladies, nor is an operation exclusively what a surgeon does. A black op is a clandestine project,... Sign in to see full entry.

Use it or lose it.
Art / writing / performing -- is 10% talent and inspiration, 90% hard work and persperation. My biggest stumbling block, selling. A writer has to think of her stories, poems and articles as the product, and sell, sell, sell. I'm not brazen enough to tell an editor who's seen the literary all-stars... Sign in to see full entry.

On loving yourself
Be kind to those that spitefully use you pray for them that persecute you and revile you especially yourself. No one is more unkind to you than you are. Have you forgotten you're the universe's child? You are part of God, part of the same image, worthy of respect. I love myself, knowing that I am... Sign in to see full entry.

The eye...
Big-eyed puppies or kittens, those stylized paintings on black velvet from 30-40 years ago of small Mexican children with big soulful eyes, the eyes of children in those Christian save the children ads. Windows to the soul. I've spent a lot of doodling time sketching faces, eyes. Remember the old... Sign in to see full entry.

Weather nerves? Excitement about art?
I'm edgy this morning. Anxious. It's supposed to get HOT today, 96 degrees with a heat index up to 110. And tomorrow it's supposed to get to 99, with a lot of humidity and warnings every once in a while on the news. Get plenty of water. Stay hydrated. Stay indoors in air conditioning if you can.... "Yonder Stands Your Orphan" ain't no literary classic.
I'm 3/4 of the way through Barry Hannah's "Yonder Stands Your Orphan." There are small sparkly bits and scenes that make me happy -- reflections on the art of poetry, etc., disguised as one of his character's reminiscences, the occasional swipe at prominent actors or one of the giants of literature....
