Good day at the Library

Our volunteer group is collecting for two groups in need: every November we ask patrons to donate canned goods or non-perishable foods for out local food pantry. In return, they get a free book. We clear our shelves for new (to us) merchandise and the food pantry gets a little help. This year... Sign in to see full entry.

Bathtubs, deadlines and whatnot

Months ago when my boys took it on themselves to remodel my bathroom, for which I've been grateful every day since, there's been a clawfoot bathtub on my front porch. It's a genuine antique, cast iron covered with porcelain that has gone worn and pitted. After the work of installing a shower, moving... Sign in to see full entry.

Remember Whinge? Blogit's Little Irish Girl who moved to New Jersey?

Her FB Posting from Friday: 11 years ago today, I was out on the batter drowning my sorrows having accordioned my indifferently maintained Micra on a wet road earlier that week, the car I rear-ended had a plum sized dent, my car crumpled like tin foil. It'd been a rough week and a rough year, so... Sign in to see full entry.

That Toddlin' Town - Chicago

Art and science museums, the "miracle mile," fabulous acquarium, the lake front, lots of great architecture, bookstores, colleges, universities, cultural influences from all over the world, people, commerce, shopping, sports. What's not to like? Son Guy and I had a coffee date yesterday, he kept... Sign in to see full entry.

Knees, Please...

One of the regulars at The Center, let's call him Frank, is a WWII Army vet, wears his billed cap proudly. Some days he can barely walk, leans on the desk and his cane from the front door to the table where he and Millie - his wife - visit with friends over coffee and pastries. Frank was scheduled... Broke The Rule...

The #1 rule of NaNoWriMo is keep writing, don't go back and edit. Don't take out anything from your original writing, keep going until you get the whole first draft down on paper, keep going until you earn that "winner" badge on Nov. 30th.... But thinking sent me back. I decided Olivia shouldn't be... Sign in to see full entry.

Simon Says - excerpt from day 24

The wedding would be on Saturday; by Thursday Maybelle had finished the last adjustment to Olivia’s gown, and after the fitting, Olivia invited her to attend a small tea party her mother was hosting for friends of the bride. She was on edge as Olivia drove to the ranch. She was fearful of the steep... Sign in to see full entry.

Game Change: from Solitaire to Monopoly

I had three 'revelations' yesterday. The first was an infomercial for a $20 antenna you put on your wall and hook up to your TV to get all the free digital channels, broadcast networks - most of the shows you look at, the news, comedies, etc. The guy said I could save nearly a thousand bucks a year... Bad Mood Rising

I was so happy yesterday, delighted to read on FB that my daughter's New York trip went off as planned. They flew out from Tampa on Wednesday, posted photos of Central Park and New York City taken from their hotel window, Iphone candid shots of the theatre marquee "The Book of Mormon" and selfies of...
