Bonus Day at The Center

Gal Wednesday was invaded by surprise guests and couldn't show up for front desk duty which meant Michelle would have to see to things by her lonesome. Wednesday's a bit slower - only about six or eight tables of bridge players in the morning, no lunch served or other activities scheduled - but the... Sign in to see full entry.

Highs and Lows...

One of the things about The Center that bugged me was the front desk where I was to sit to answer the phone. The thing looked good, but when I sat in the chair, the desk was right at shoulder height. In order to log appointments for the center's van or use the phone, I'd have to stand up and stoop.... Sign in to see full entry.

A Writing Prompt - The Seven Minute Autobiography

This is an exercise for the first time a group writes together. Everyone writes a seven-minute autobiography, of which one detail must be fiction. At the end of the session - as the writers share their stories - the listeners get three guesses about which part was fiction. It warms up the group and... Sign in to see full entry.

The Games We Play...(at the beauty shop)

Okay, so Great Clips ain't exactly a beauty shop. But it is a place where Raggedy Annie can spruce her "do" and begin to look a little better cared-for. Which I did, yesterday. My favorite cutter was there, and she took off just enough to turn my outgrown mess of thinning gray with no sense of... Sign in to see full entry.

Roomba - my new pet

Yesterday I finally charged up the floor-cleaning robot my daughter sent me for Christmas. The funny thing is, it talks. It says Roomba needs charge. It may say other things, but it thumps and bumps into things, it whirs as it ambulates, and for no particular reason it reminds me of a bunny. It... Sign in to see full entry.

St. Louis Woman

There have been floating night clubs on the Mississippi at St. Louis for 100-plus years. Brass bands (Dixieland) and New Orleans style jazz, the blues, all kinds of singers, song- writers, horn players and performers left their day jobs behind to put on a show on the riverboat on a Friday or... Something to be grateful for

It encourages me that people I respect give a lot of thought to serious issues, that they search for answers to their questions, and that they share their ideas here on Blogit. This is a great place, my neighbors are kind and even when we argue a point, we do so with respect. One day, if we're... Sign in to see full entry.

House to House...

In Florida, my 47-year-old daughter who passed the bar last July and got her license to practice law a couple months later, has established herself as a corporation and has taken on a couple pro-bono cases. Next month she'll be attending a post-grad seminar on the legal stuff surrounding defense... "What we've got here is a failure to communicate."

The phrase is a quotation from the 1967 film Cool Hand Luke, spoken by Strother Martin in his role as prison warden. After I sent the email to Sara, she replied nicely, asked me to drop in to her office so we could talk about the ch-ch-changes The Board is talking about. I went to talk to her, and... Ch-ch-ch-Changes...

It's eight o'clock. I sat down here at 5:45 to compose a response email to Sara, Director at The Center. Maybe I've mentioned that I pulled together the writing prompts from 2013 and 2014's weekly "Write Your Own Story" program sessions. Being OCD about putting things in order, and because there'd...
