Now there are two hoots! (owl update)

Now we are thinking that our resident owl isn't a 'barred owl' but that he is a 'great horned owl' because he has the ear tufts. And, there are two of them! At night we can hear, "hoot hoot" followed by an identical answer but in a different pitch. A Mr.and Mrs. Owl! We're trying to figure out what... Sign in to see full entry.

On Ice Today

Today was one of those kind of 'in between' days. My hands were sore and arthritic from yesterday's ride in the cold. I was tired from nights of the full moon and all the weekend fun. I had a disturbing dream last night that I haven't been able to articulate. It was a holiday but didn't feel like... Sign in to see full entry.

The past made present...

Very early this morning I had a date with a box of old photos. Yes, I know it’s odd to have a date at 5am on a Sunday morning, but that is just how is happened. Yesterday, I pulled out a box of photos because I was looking for a few that I wanted to include with my blogs. I’ve just looked through... Sign in to see full entry.

Do you give a hoot?

We have a new neighbor, a beautiful hoot owl! He sits on the chimney next door and hoots all night. We have been peering up at him through our binoculars, ooh-ing and ahh-ing, saying things like, 'he looks like a big chicken!' We can't get a photo of him because it’s too dark, even with the full... 4 o'clock twilight

I have a memory that will never leave me. I was about 15, growing up in Western Minnesota; a friend and I had been out to visit her horse in the middle of winter. The days were really short and even though it was only 4pm, it was already getting dark. The sky was very grey, the smell of snow hung in... Sign in to see full entry.

Our family 'miracle' story

My Dad flew B-24 bombers in WWII and this is one of his stories. It's a story of a miracle in the air, unbelievable courage, survival in the harshest imaginable conditions. Dad and his crew flew B-24s out of London during that war, flew many bombing runs over Germany, braving awful weather, thick... Sign in to see full entry.

I'll take a side of pain with that

I've discovered the best diet I've ever been on- I call it 'The Pain Avoidance' diet. Lately, my gall bladder hasn't been a very happy camper and I've had to cut out fried foods, greasy foods, carbonated drinks, most sweets... well, you get the picture. If I don't do this, I suffer a really awful... Sign in to see full entry.

Two cowboys showed up at our house yesterday...

they were there to look at an item we had for sale. The guys were cowboys because they raise show horses for a living; I think that probably qualifies them for the title of cowboy. They showed up in a big truck and were considering the item for their home-- they live together. Inside, I was... Sign in to see full entry.

How far would you go to carry out last wishes?

I saw a news story this morning about a lady who was found, two and a half years after her death, mummified and sitting in front of her TV. Evidently, she was determined to come back after her death and had asked her caregiver to do this for her. The lady was wrapped up and the air conditioning was... Sign in to see full entry.
