Being a dyspeptic skeptic

I had considered renaming this blog yet again, to The Dyspeptic Skeptic, but decided against it, at least for the time being. That decision was based on the idea that I've already built up some brand loyalty with my current title, The crazy lady strikes again. (Of course, I haven't been getting that many people coming over to read this blog lately, so the idea that I might have some brand loyalty is a bit ludicrous under the circumstances. After all, it's not like I'm #1 in the Top Blogs... Sign in to see full entry.

That's one POed pussycat!

Garfield is not a happy camper right now. After all the time I spent taking her dictation - and she said it was the best writing she'd ever done - I ended up hitting the Privacy Policy link at the bottom of the page instead of the Submit button. We ended up having to rewrite today's Field Notes from the ground up, not a pleasant prospect for a feline professional who values her time. She talks about some of the problems we've been facing in today's Field Notes, in The Secret Life of Cats.... Sign in to see full entry.

This time, I'm writing about it

I've finally had enough. I'm writing about it. I won't divulge every single nauseating detail - that would provide readers with too much information, and some of it's confidential, anyway - but I'm fed up, and I'm writing about it. The last straw was when Michael - yes, Garfield's idiot brother Michael - spilled my transplant meds and coffee all over the kitchen floor. He was punished severely, and after finishing an entry in his blog, he is currently hiding in an undisclosed location, afraid of... Sign in to see full entry.

Singing the blues

For the past few days, I've been feeling at least a little depressed - nowhere near as depressed as I was two years ago, but bad enough to get my attention. I've noticed, furthermore, that it is a direct reaction to certain events. What I'm reacting to, specifically, is the fact that I can't talk about these situations without becoming very angry. If I were to write about them here on Blogit, for example, I would become very angry, and try to justify my position in writing here, probably in this... Sign in to see full entry.

Paying the bills

I was able to make payment arrangements with the natural-gas company, precluding the need for me to contact my doctor to prove that disconnection of natural-gas services would aggravate my medical condition. I could prove it, in all probability, but I imagine our natural-gas company gets a lot of that kind of information from people looking to weasel out of paying their natural-gas or other heating bills. (That makes things all the more difficult for those of us who can prove to the gas... Sign in to see full entry.

Houston, we have a problem

We received another disconnect notice, this time from our local natural-gas company. I think I'm finally tired of all the financial stress. I know for a fact that it could have been averted by doing things differently; we could have been prepared for all the medical bills I've run up over the past two-plus years (since I was hospitalized for depression in August 2004). How do I get my life to working again?

I wanted to write this in a calm frame of mind, so as to create the correct impression - to tell the truth. The one thing I can remember wanting to do growing up was to get married - to have a man in my life, to take care of. Of course, I did have misconceptions about this, most notably that one needed a man in order to be complete (something most of us recognize, for various reasons, as being wrong). For me, now, that means that I've chosen not to earn a paycheck. Even if I thought I could earn... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, no, not again

This article tells the story of the resignation of the Rev. Ken Haggard, formerly head of the National Association of Evangelicals, forced to resign in what is becoming a stereotypical fashion: he got caught in a sex scandal. A gay male prostitute has come forward, claiming that Rev. Haggard engaged in sex for money with him on a regular basis, until just recently. Although Rev. Haggard has confessed his use of methamphetamine, he denies having had sex with this male prostitute, despite... Sign in to see full entry.

Another visit from Big Brother

I've been thinking of some of the issues and problems brought up in the recent CNBC special Big Brother, Big Business. I do have one criticism of that show. I wish there were some definitive solutions presented to the problem of privacy invasion as it was presented on Big Brother, Big Business. What would happen if, in the future, Google were sold to someone willing to give all information gathered during Google searches to a government agency creating a security dossier on every single citizen... How to tamper with voting machines without even trying

It's a shame we don't subscribe to HBO - they're running a documentary on how easy it is to tamper with the computerized voting machines most precincts use nowadays. Sophisticated computer programmers - or even skilled hackers - can do the job without much effort, "stuffing the ballot box" using sophisticated computer skills rather than literally stuffing an actual ballot box with paper ballots. First, privacy invasions. Now, this. Look out, here comes that Brave New World of science-fiction... Sign in to see full entry.
