Israel Weightlifter Wins in Poland, 2nd Place Iranian Refuses to Shake Hand

From Gapcohen's Email box this morning: " This is nothing short of wonderful. Notice how the Iranian does not shake hands with the Israeli winner and when the announcer announces first place she does not say Israel. Israeli Flag next to Iran 's in world master weight lifting in Poland... You will find this very moving. "Practical Zionism"

In 1913, an American Jewish woman, Henrietta Szold, sent two nurses to Jerusalem through the just-formed Hadassah Organization. This combination of action and ideology, a concept called "practical Zionism" is still prevalent today. According to Nancy Falchuk, current President of Hadassah, "from the foundation of Hadassah (in 1912) to Israeli independence (in 1948), a group of Jewish housewives, many without telephones in their homes, built a medical infrastructure and much of the education... Today, Nick Kristoff had an interesting Op-Ed piece in the New York Times. I generally find his coverage of the Middle East to be anti-Israel, but he does make some good points as an activist/journalist. Today, he wrote about a Muslim woman - a doctor- in Somalia who has gone up against the radical Islamists, forcing them to allow her to open schools for women and back off.
